I own the one-volume edition of the Tekumel Source Book published by Gamescience. I also own the first volume only of the 3-volume edition of the Tekumel Source Book published by Different Worlds. I've been recommending the Tekumel Source Book to some friends, and I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is on which is preferable to have: The one-volume Gamescience edition, or the three-volume Different Worlds/Tita's edition. I know that the text is pretty much identical. I'm just wondering about formatting, art, or whatnot. (Here is a link to all the different books mentioned in this post: www.tekumel.com/tita/swords.html )

The DW edition is a bit less intimidating format-wise and it's certainly more readable because the text doesn't appear quite as dense (even though it is). On the other hand, I have a certain fondness for the Gamescience one-volume edition, perhaps because it's the one I own.

For right now, the best version is the one you can lay your hands on. I know it's been a long time coming, but the best version will hopefully soon be the one I'm almost done preparing. It'll be a PDF version (and probably print, as well), with a searchable index and reasonably decent layout (and a few more details about life in the Five Empires).

I only have the single volume version but here's why: it's cheaper IIRC and is the only one to have an index. I don't read this straight through cover to cover and the index is very handy in a pinch. It's harder to read and has less artwork but it suffices for me until the PDF version comes out. Spiral binding is a plus IMO.
