Also, if anyone is interested here are the search terms that I use most often when searching for OD&D stuff: 1974 Underworld & Wilderness Adventures Arneson Fantastic Medieval Wargames Whitebox D&D od&d Vintage D&D (lots of 1st Edition and Holmes or B/X era hits) Original Dungeons and Dragons (very broad, lots of unrelated hits) Thanks for the tip!

I don't have time to do a full update, but I just saw a copy of Castles & Crusades boxed set for sales and it is a only number 82 of the signed copies.

Was it the original shrink wrap? I can't help but be a little skeptical of vintage-item auctions where "shrink wrapped" is listed as some kind of selling point. I used to work at a music store that did a lot of shrink-wrapping of books and other merchandise, it's really not hard to do... This isn't to say that I think this particular seller or anyone else selling stuff in shrink wrap is a swindler, just that I always take such descriptions with a grain of salt unless there are other indicators of authenticity on the wrap -- weathered price tags, stickers, etc. That Adventures in Fantasy box is tempting, very tempting!

I am sure that is what the seller is hoping! I also found a magazine called Game news and the seller says they contains an interview with Gygax and an interview with Arneson.

Looks like with these interviews would be of great interest anyone into the history of gaming and these two giants in particular.

$277 for the Mars thing is a waste, unless you are some kind of collector and money is no big deal. That copy of of the first Arduin book is the second printing. The first printing had a much cooler cover by Erol Otus.
Ebay has to be the worst place to get this kind of stuff. You just can't get a good deal there.

Ebay has to be the worst place to get this kind of stuff. You just can't get a good deal there. The first part of this statement is somewhat defensible but the latter is, in no way, an accurate statement. I've won many bids on eBay I would consider "good deals" and all it took was a little patience and a little time. Sellers on eBay are much like sellers anywhere else, they are looking to maximize profit on whatever they are offering. If you are unprepared and in a rush to add to your collection you can and will get taken. The flip side? Often sellers have no idea regarding the value of their offerings. Know the market! There is a a forum dedicated to monitoring prices on D&D and AD&D collectibles: www.acaeum.com/. This is a good starting point for having a fair idea of the market value of D&D or other FRPG memorabilia. . Try searching for things you want to buy using different and non-conventional search terms or looking in categories one might not look for gaming items. The reward for this added diligence might be (for instance) an OD&D boxed set in very good condition for $20 (US). Yes, I speak from experience regarding this last point.

Where is the best place where you can always get a good deal. Please share it with the rest of us.
There are several things, like the Warriors of Mars, that I would love to find in my price range.

If that is addressed to me, I am afraid I can't help you. There is no place you will always get a good deal. Collecting anything, including out of print materials, requires work and patience. Some suggestions include: Goodwill, Salvation Army, and similar thrift stores. Here in Austin the stores have extensive book sections. Both entities listed above also have shops devoted exclusively to books. Half-Price Books. Book exchange clubs. eBay. Antiquarian Book Dealers. eta: Estate Sales
