I used to use YouSendIt for that but I just checked the site. Though the basic send/download service is free, password protection is $3.99.

IMHO there's a tiny detail: password protection on a PDF can be easily broken.

IMHO there's a tiny detail: password protection on a PDF can be easily broken. I believe he meant access to download the file would require a password, not the file itself being encoded with a password.

To further protect your data, every SendThisFile paid plan has the option to password protect file download links. Password protection has the primary advantage of limiting file access to only the party with whom you wish to share the file. With password protection enabled, no one may download your file without the correct password. Maybe Wikisend.com too.
