This is a great issue and I am now rocking it non-stop.
Jason did two great 'intro/classic D&D' pics. But maybe someone else did a really good third one as well? Let me know soonish...

I really like this thing Daniel Boggs wrote that I'm laying out right now. This morning's work: 2 pages in 2 hours - not bad, could be faster - but anyway that rate is good enough to get it out in a week or two. July 14 or bust!

What are you using these days for layout software, Cal?

Well, various kinds of things get pumped into Acrobat. A surprisingly high percentage of it is still being done in MS Word though.

I could give you a hand Cal, I have Page Plus and some experience of magazine layout from a former job.

That would be great, Bert. I got another great offer from someone else in the mag's early days. My big problem with this is that I don't know how to break down my process so that editing, rewriting, art direction, etc. can all be pulled out and distributed. I should really figure that out, though, especially now that I am forcing myself to hew to the 88 page limit and having to postpone getting more stuff into the mag. If you have any ideas on all that drop me a line!
Anyway, hopefully it will be done soon! Another good day at 'the office' here so far.

Gabor's city-state is laid out. Now working on the Darkness Beneath installment. Just shot back an espresso and I have the Ancient Ancient Age I brought back from Kentucky at my side, so we'll see how things go tonight!

My big problem with this is that I don't know how to break down my process so that editing, rewriting, art direction, etc. can all be pulled out and distributed. You & your secondary editor could produce two separate PDF's, and then you merge them together using a tool like pdftk: www.pdflabs.com/tools/pdftk-the-pdf-toolkit/The only slightly tricky parts would be the page numbers and table of contents - you'd need to coordinate a bit on those to keep them straight.

3/4 done now, and I found childcare for tomorrow and Thursday, it will be out this week. I am going to have to cut some stuff I said I would put in there, including a couple of regular features. But they will all be back.

Good timing as Lulu's latest coupon code is BIGAU305 for 20% off, which runs out on the 15th.

Layout is done! Assuming my computer doesn't crash while I'm assembling the PDF and doing final line edits, it should be on-line in a few hours.
