Just saw this game was #1 in the old school D&D section on Drive-Thru - anyone had a look at it yet ? The author, Simon Washbourne, said of it: I wrote Go Fer Yer Gun! based off C&C (when I had a copy of C&C). I no longer have C&C, so I wrote Tombs & Terrors based off Go Fer Yer Gun! & Medieval Mysteries, using bits of Swords & Wizardry and bits of the OGL. So the classes and races are a bit different. There are 2 primary, 2 secondary and 2 tertiary attributes (12, 15 and 18 respectively). There are skills - each class gets a skill selection at 1st, 4th, 8th & 12th and these become class abilities. Although GFYG & MM are a bit different, it is easy to mix & match - so you could use classes from MM in T&T, for example. Or you could do a fantasy western. Spells and monsters are different - nearer to Swords & Wizardry than C&C.
In releasing T&T, I'm not claiming it is better than the other "retro" and "old school" games out there. I'm just presenting as an option - one that suits me better than most of the others. More variant than clone, interesting ?

Interesting---I hadn't heard of it.
That illustration on the cover was used in Fight On! for an article, I forget which one...

I hadn't heard of it, either, but I really like Simon's Go Fer Yer Gun and others, so I may have to look into this...

It's like C&C with 3 levels of attributes (primary, secondary, and tertiary). D20 without the feats and alot of ref's "rulings, not rules" during combat. Just skimmed through it today. Something I would like to try.

Hi, I haven't visited these forums for a while and when I do...TnT is being talked about! It is inspired/based off of Go Fer Yer Gun! and Medieval Mysteries (which themselves are based off C&C), so its bound to be similar. There are quite a few things that are different though. At 10th level, every class gets followers of some sort . There are rules for wound infection (from MM) and critical hits do max weapon damage if you roll a natural "20". You also roll again to see what other effect there might be - broken bones, internal bleeding etc. Spells are different and toubadours (replacing bards) are less "fighty" and get a selection of spells. There are no alignments. The book contains a basic "you all meet in a tavern" adventure too. I'm working on two soucebooks - more character classes in the first and a campaign/setting for the second. The world is quite dark, having come through demon wars several centuries ago - leaving loads of tombs and crypts to be explored. There are still demons abroad and the undead feature highly too. That's about it - oh it is available in print from LULU too: stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=1016378

Glad to hear there's more Tombs & Terrors goodness in the pipeline, Simon.
This is a superb effort and truly inspirational - and I mean that most sincerely. It's what d20 should have been. Were I not running a Spellcraft & Swordplay campaign I would pick this up and run with it straight away.
It is certain to say this will be getting some game time at my table in the not too distant future. As a though experiment I would love to overlay the Spellcraft & Swordplay 2d6 mechanic (and a few others bibs and bobs: spell casting rolls, combat pip pools) onto Tombs and Terrors. It would then be like what 3e should have been like had the Chainmail combat system been retained instead of switching to the optional d20 system.
The mind boggles!

Even though Elf Lair has been (sadly, of necessity) quiet for too long, I still get giddy when someone says they're running S&S. Hope you're enjoying it.
And kudos, Simon! Doubtless another quality release!

Is The Book Of Classes a pdf release only?

Is The Book Of Classes a pdf release only? I'm just debating the merits of releasing it via LULU (as it's only 34 pages).

Would Simon or Geordie or someone else want to say what this T&T brings to the table?

Would Simon or Geordie or someone else want to say what this T&T brings to the table? Nothing that any of the other "retro" or "old school" D&D-esque things don't. TnT is kinda nearest to C&C with skills. It just suits me, that's all. And if it suits me, I thought it might suit someone else too.
