Breath of New Moon frees herself of the last of the bandages and takes stock of her surroundings. She is lying on a stone slab; at her feet is a crude wicker basket containing her armor, helm, and backpack (her glaive is nowhere to be seen).
The room itself is circular, carved from roughly-hewn rock. Several torches are placed in wall sconces, filling the chamber with smoky light. There are 14 stone slabs arranged in a ring. Above the slabs are suspended dozens of small glass objects that twinkle in the torch-light like multi-colored alien constellations. The chamber floor is lowest at the center, which is marred by rubble and disturbed earth. The only obvious exit is a circular, manhole-sized opening in the center of the ceiling, 20 feet above.
You have company: On the adjacent slab is another humanoid form completely swaddled in mummy-like bandages. It too has a wicker basket at its feet. The other slabs are empty but stained dark from past violence. All is quiet and still. The distant sounds of battle you previously heard through the opening above have subsided.

Breath of New Moon tries to put thoughts of 'transformation' from her mind as she takes in her surroundings. Turning her attention to the body beside her, she opens the wicker basket at its feet to see what may lie inside.

The other basket contains plate armor, shield, crossbow, bolts, backpack, and a bizarre-looking hand axe carved of green stone.

Breath figures this looks like another victim of the Foreman, and prods the mummy-wrapped body. "Hsst! You alive in there?" She takes the green axe, and uses it to start carefully cutting the wrapping away.
She is ready to use the axe in a more lethal manner if it appears the other victim has already been 'transformed'.

The wrapped figure moves slightly, and a muffled "mmm-hmm" seems to indicate a positive answer.

While Breath and the mysterious stranger are getting to know each other, they hear sounds of footsteps and a hushed discussion through the hole above...
Elsewhere, The Shadow opens the stout wooden door at the far end of the room, and this is what he sees:
The screams come from the Foreman of the Central Shaft! He is lying shirtless on a table bleeding profusely from the greivous chest wound inflicted earlier by Eye of Thundera. A man is standing over him and stitching up the gash, looking closer you recognize him as the chatty, well-dressed White Man from the train!
The room itself is in sharp contrast to the one you just left: clean, civilized, perhaps even comfortable. Though the objects are a mismatched hodge-podge, it appears the owner takes good care of his books, tools, furniture, etc.
(d6=1) Distracted by the medical drama, they have not noticed you... you have surprised them!
Oh yes, and I forgot to mention, standing between you and the Foreman and intently watching the surgery's outcome, are (6d6) 25 feral cannibal white men!

As quietly as he can, The Shadow closes the door again and looks at the rest of the party with wide eyes.
He whispers, "Let's examine the pit..."

The Mirthful Doomed looks at the door nervously. "Should we bar the door?" he whispers.

At the sound of voices nearby, Breath of New Moon redoubles her efforts with the axe to free the other victim, figuring she's likely to need an ally soon. And what's the cost of a few scratches compared to the benefit of his life?...

(Dex check = 1) The Shadow manages to close the door quietly without alerting the enemy to your presence. A quick examination of the pit confirms that the circular chamber some 20 feet below contains Breath of New Moon and Minion of The Unholy Fragnog who is now freed from his bonds.

Breath and Minion witness an astounding sight:
A horrifying, bat-like humanoid creature materializes from nowhere, carrying Fated to Die by the mohawk! It flings him to the ground and then disappears as quickly as it appeared.
Fated stands up and brushes himself off (he appears to be unharmed, though pale and shaken from his ordeal). He cuts a bizarre figure, clad in fur coat and silk pyjama bottoms, smeared with gore, and carrying three burgundy-vinyl duffel bags!

Fated to Die: "Breath of New Moon? Fancy meeting you here. And... another Bone One. I keep unlucky company."
Fated looks around - lost again, but at least no longer alone.
"You probably have a lot of questions for me, chief among them: Where did I get this fabulous coat & pyjamas? I'll answer soon enough, but now is not the time for talk. Where are we and how do we... - "
Fated looks up and sees he has an audience...
"Hello friends, well met! You're a little late - I've rescued Breath of New Moon myself. You haven't lost my slave have you? Well don't just stand there... help us out!"
[OOC - I've changed my character sheet to reflect the loss of Pack Slave and certain items and the gain of my sweet new outfit, let me know if anything else needs to be changed.]

Rising from the table, Minion of The Unholy Fragnog begins putting on his armor and strapping on his meagre gear.
"Thank you Breath of New Moon. I am Minion of The Unholy Fragnog. Honored man of ulfire, what was that horror, and why did it deliver you here?"

I was probably dressed differently..."

Hardly believing her luck, Breath of New Moon dresses in her helm and armour, and takes up her pack. After a moment's hesitation, she hands Minion his green axe.
"Surely one of you has a rope?" she calls up to those above.
While she is waiting she carefully surveys the walls for any signs of cracks or disturbances in the loose soil of the floor which may indicate a secret or hidden door whereby the Foreman or his slaves accessed the pit if not from above.

Thaimos looks down in the pit. "Perhaps we should see if we can rescue our wayward companion. Though she looks as if she is talking with another. We should find out if he be friend or foe."
Thaimos readies his flail.

The Mirthful Doomed looks around for a rope or something. How deep is the pit again?

Eye of Thundera (currently a temporary NPC) is carrying 50' of rope and lowers it down the 20' pit for the others to climb.
(sorry for the gap in posting, a heck of a thunderstorm came through and I was without electricity/internet yesterday!)

While she is waiting she carefully surveys the walls for any signs of cracks or disturbances in the loose soil of the floor which may indicate a secret or hidden door whereby the Foreman or his slaves accessed the pit if not from above. The walls are solid stone. The earthen floor is disturbed and pushed around, as though several big plants or burrowing creatures burst up from the soil to claim the waiting sacrifices. The thought of digging into the belly of the mountain to investigate is not enticing.

Seeing the disturbed earth, Minion urges Breath of New Moon up the rope as quickly as possible, followed by the disheveled dandy, then himself.

Breath of New Moon wastes no time complying with Minion's suggestion, and is the first up the rope.

Breath climbs the rope easily, it is good to be out of the sacrificial chamber of the Foreman's cult.

Thaimos greets Breath of New Moon with a warm smile. "I trust you are unharmed? When you were taken, I feared the worst." He looks at Minion quizzically. "Who is your new friend?" he asks.
