It has probably alllready been discussed, but re-reading once again the FFC, I was surprised to find that reference to a "Double 1 Strength Ogre" and "Double 1 Strength" Dwarves., in Sir Fang descripion (p. 29).
Double strength would be easy to link with his fighting system, but double 1 seems more to link a 1 and 1 result on 2d6.
I assume it could refer to something as a 2+ on a save roll, but not sure, as double one seems to have a special signification. Aldarron, your advice?
MOD EDIT: Fixed "Strenght" into "Strength"

Yet again you've encountered something that has slipped my notice. This section raises many questions in my befuddled mind:
* if Fang was based on Slavic vamps, what resource (book?) did DLA use for details? Did DLA have the famed book on vamps by Montague Summers? * what is 'Vampire x5' in terms of game-mechanics? * Charm x 5 strength?
As for your observations, they are indeed puzzling.

It has probably alllready been discussed, but re-reading once again the FFC, I was surprised to find that reference to a "Double 1 Strenght Ogre" and "Double 1 Strenght" Dwarves., in Sir Fang descripion (p. 29). Double strenght would be easy to link with his fighting syste, but double 1 seems more to link a 1 and 1 result on 2d6. I assume it could refer to something as a 2+ on a save roll, but not sure, as double one seems to have a special signification. Aldarron, your advice, Thought provoking no? But the reason for the confusion is not nearly so intriguing. "Double 1" is a typo. In the '77 print it reads "(Dbl strength Ogre) and two Dwarves (also Dbl strength)" and the "l" is one of those old typwriter font l's that resemble a 1, so whoever retyped it for the 1980 print thought "Dbl" was "double 1" * if Fang was based on Slavic vamps, what resource (book?) did DLA use for details? Did DLA have the famed book on vamps by Montague Summers? * what is 'Vampire x5' in terms of game-mechanics? * Charm x 5 strength? As for your observations, they are indeed puzzling. Source? <shrug> maybe the Ruthven stories or the late 19th century short stories, or maybe just the World Book Encyclopedia. I dunno. However the Slavic Vampire is detailed quite thoroghly in Arnesons Adventures in Fantasy. Vampire x5 means x5 Hit Dice and Hit point values and probably +5 on Saving throws. So assuming the most powerful kind of Vampire at 9 HD, Sir Fang would Have 45HD, He'd presumably be around 157 HP if Dave was using D6 or or 202 if he switched to the Greyhawkian d8. I think it was probably the d6 intended and that seems to be in line with the DoCBM (Zeitgeist) stats for Fang Where he's given 150 HP. Charm x5 strength - Vampires normally get a -2 bonus to the victims saving throw, Fang gets a -5. Arneson links the strength/values multiplier (doubling, tripling, etc) with the integer (2,3 etc) as a modifier for saving throws. We see this in TotF and IIRC a couple other places.

Drat. Another potential mystery vanishes when confronted with actual wisdom.
