There was a point at which ways I thought said the dwarves could run for 4-5 rounds if they were willing to take one shot at them per round. It's moot now but I would have taken those odds. If I'm wrong no biggie, we seem to be in it now.
We are a massive target with a party this size. If we want to minimize losses we will need to stick pretty closely to the scout-retreat-full assault method - and the scouts have to get out before they trigger action as often as possible, they are information gatherers. (Why Wizard Eye is a 4th level spell.)
Concentrated force is hugely important in most RPG combat systems and the more of it you apply faster the more likely you are to get through what is often a pretty rough attrition game.
Well, let's kill these trolls and then we can yell at each other IC and form some unit cohesion. But if you guys see any chance at fighting retreat as a group - I think some of you are doing this already - take it. Otherwise, reinforcements are on the way!

As it turns out both Sili and Norin have great ACs and the Dwarf advantage against Giant sized enemy, so they are reasonably unlikely to be hit, even from behind.
And if I don't roll anything higher than an 8 it won't matter in any case!
(How's that for an attempt to "lift the jinx"?)

Sili is reasonably confident he could hold a narrow passage against single-file trolls (300 style) IF he had is shield and flail equipped... next expedition he is bringing Hepti and Vestri as torch-bearers!

And if I don't roll anything higher than an 8 it won't matter in any case! (How's that for an attempt to "lift the jinx"?) I'm not holding my breath that we'll make it to the bottom of the stairs... (attempting to block your jinx lift)

I was hoping these trolls had the same issues with sunlight as the three from The Hobbit... I always figured Gandalf cast Flesh to Stone and then blamed it on the sun so the Dwarves/Bilbo wouldn't realize just how powerful he was.

FYI -- My internet access may be patchy this weekend, but I expect everything to be back to normal come Monday.
It would be great if folks contrived a marching order.
The stair is wide enough to two to fight abreast with swinging swords and axes, or else three abreast with thrusting spears or firing bows.

A seer knows much lore, including any recorded histories or accountings of travels to and from and within Moria. Anything you can dig up on the web regarding Middle Earth in general, and Moria specifically, I'll considered to be part of your seer's knowledge. That includes any maps or descriptions of the major features and/or chambers within Moria. Any maps you happen to find may or may not be reliable, of course...

I am trying to come up with some ideas of marching order/groupings & strategies for us - if anyone has some ideas in these regards, I am interested to hear! One thing is that this is one of the only points that we don't have to worry (so much) about enemies before and behind. Perhaps our fighting men charge in and try to dispatch the bad guys just inside so that they don't have time to alert others? Some of us could stay behind with some of the extra gear to lighten the immediate fighting load and serve as a 'safe point' if anyone needs to (& has the opportunity to!) back off. Perhaps the sneaks might follow behind and see what can be seen I'm a seer and not much cut out for combats myself, but I'd suggest a charge! (typical armchair general! Not too far, but to eliminate the ones who've seen us... dwarves in the halls is some news that might get around! <edit because I forgot some words>

Soval has used an oil flask for his lantern, so he's down to 5 now, maybe with a mostly full lantern still if the DM is generous. Seems like you charged the men 2 encumbrance each for daggers? But all that aside, I am wondering if we can retroactively buy a mule or draft horse. I am not sure how we would have lugged all that stuff overland here without it in the first place! If not I will assume we stumbled here under heavy loads and come up with some stuff to leave behind.
