Welcome, Cameron! Have you gleaned enough of the character-generation rules from the previous discussion, or do you need a quick recap? Do you have a character concept in mind, or would you prefer to roll on some wacky random tables like What Went Wrong: docs.google.com/document/d/1WHOhWhIjaBK7L49Iy5rlF5-pWoR6fq1WKCEc7JReBsc/edit?pli=1Here are your stats. You may switch any 1 die of your choice to a 6. Str: ( 6 + 5 + 5 ) = 16 Int: ( 6 + 5 + 3 ) = 14 Wis: ( 1 + 3 + 2 ) = 6 Dex: ( 1 + 2 + 5 ) = 8 Con: ( 4 + 2 + 4 ) = 10 Cha: ( 6 + 4 + 4 ) = 14 Starting cash: ( 6 + 5 + 2 ) = 130sp What kind of dinosaur do you want? It has 1 Carcosa Crazy Die = 9HD. Post your ideas over in the Character Generation thread: odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=muchgnome&action=display&thread=5613

hey, not bad starting rolls! Lots of possibilities in there. One thing to keep in mind: Caster-types don't use your typical magic missile and Charm Person spells. They're rituals that take a while to gather ingredients for and a long time to cast. And casters level a bit slower. So if you want something that will level faster, go with the fighter type. That said... some of these rituals we're uncovering are pretty cool.

True that... in the 2nd year of the campaign, and we are still gathering material components. I hope the "reveal" is astounding when it eventually happens...

Cameron: I happen to be a fan of your NPC Witch class as published in the Carcosan Grimoire. If you have any interest in working that up as a PC class, let's give it a try! However your (unadjusted) stats do not scream "post menopausal crone of great wisdom" to me.

Maybe he could just be a menopausal crone?

An apprentice! Thus, I (she) would have some witch powers but not be of the required age. . .

Yes! A 1st level witch would begin play with the fighting capability of 1 man and knowing 1 die = 4 elixir recipes. Additional elixirs must be researched through gameplay.

Okay, I'll run with that. I'll work up an equipment and elixir list this evening when I get home from work.

Sounds great! FYI we are using silver-piece-based economy and the price lists from Lamentations of the Flame Princess Grindhouse Edition free download no-artwork rulebook: www.lotfp.com/RPG/products/lotfp-weird-fantasy-role-playingThe LotFP Specialist class should give you a good framework for your Witch class. Let's invent a new skill called Witchcraft, which governs researching new elixirs and so forth. You'll have a chance-in-6 equal to the number of skill points you invest (up to 4). (tangent: most skills chance-in-6 equals [skill points + 1] since anyone untrained has base 1-in-6 odds; but we've decreed that custom non-standard skills the untrained odds are 0-in-6 so no +1 to the roll.) I have also house-ruled that all PC's get 1 bonus skill point at 1st level to round out their PC's background, and my suggested secondary skill for your Witch is something like Bushcraft (so she'll be good at foraging/gathering ingredients for her elixirs). Let's also assume she is proficient in 1 useful craft such as pottery, glass blowing, basketmaking, etc.

Since we're getting ready to add a new character to the game...
Any other lurkers want to take the opportunity to join? Seriously, you don't have to be afraid of doing anything too weird in this game. Or of messing up, even. Sometimes when you mess up really cool things happen. You get transmogrified into a demonic hybrid or... you grow a second head (wait, wrong game; never mind).
It's all good. This is Carcosa!
You know you want to see what craziness you can get yourself into.
Do it. Do it now!

Mushgnome hooked me up with link to the game and I'd like to play. I have no experience with Chainmail, have read through Carcosa once, and have not read any of the game so far. But when I read "hunting bone men from the back of a dinosaur" how could I not want to play?

Welcome dogma, nice to have you here! Don't worry about your lack of Chainmail experience, we are all learning as we go. Also this is a "DM rolls all the dice" game, so your narrative abilities are more important than your meta-knowledge of the system. Here are your starting rolls. You may swap any 1 die to a 6 as you wish. Str: ( 2 + 5 + 4 ) = 11 Int: ( 5 + 4 + 1 ) = 10 Wis: ( 4 + 1 + 3 ) = 8 Dex: ( 2 + 3 + 4 ) = 9 Con: ( 3 + 3 + 1 ) = 7 Cha: ( 3 + 4 + 6 ) = 13 coin: ( 1 + 1 + 5 ) = 70sp You will also be provided with a 1dd = 4HD dinosaur (species of your choosing) and a number of 0-level henchmen determined by your Charisma (5 for Cha 13, or 6 if you bump it up to 16). I should probably also mention we are going to have some dead pikemen soon, so you can get plate armor and pike for free, if you'd rather spend your starting cash on something else. Why don't you go ahead and start brainstorming some ideas in the Character Generation thread: odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=muchgnome&action=display&thread=5613&page=1Most of our house rules are mentioned there, or ask if you have any questions. (By PM if you have a sensitive/secret question about your sinister character concept.)

Mushgnome my Boccaccio! It was i who pimped out the Carcosa! ;D
Welcome aboard, Dogma! If you want to do a bit of reading, then I won't bother with a recap. Let me know, otherwise, though, and I will.
Great to have another player on board!

Also, speak up if you want any chargen advice. We players probably don't have much to offer, but maybe just a little, if you desire.

For what it's worth, I am open to home-brewed character concepts, for example we slightly tweaked the Specialist class to create a Witch Apprentice subclass for Apothecaria.

Hello All,
I am brand spanking new to Carcosa and Chainmail but the campaign sounds really open and awesome if you will have me. I have plenty of off the wall ideas and i'll try to turn that into something sensible after i'm done reading the char gen thread.
Not a must have but Does this game have two headed people like D&D ettins?

Welcome aquebman!
I have never DM'd a 2-headed character, but one of our players (ehiker) has a lot of experience playing one (in a different campaign)! I'm not opposed to the idea.
Here are your starting rolls; you may swap any 1 die to a 6:
Str: ( 6 + 3 + 5 ) = 14 Int: ( 3 + 2 + 6 ) = 11 Wis: ( 5 + 3 + 1 ) = 9 Dex: ( 2 + 5 + 6 ) = 13 Con: ( 5 + 4 + 1 ) = 10 Cha: ( 1 + 2 + 4 ) = 7 Silver pieces: ( 3 + 6 + 6 ) = 150

So I apologize but i'm just trying to sort of feel out my boundaries. I'll list a few ideas just to see what you think.
1.) what about things like summoned creatures or dominated followers i.e. a Mindbender from 3.5 D&D for example or a witch/necro with undead or in this world "bone men" followers heh
2.) How about an undead character or a character which is cursed with lycanthropy or something cosmically equivalent?

1) This is built into the system in the mechanic of Henchmen (loyal follwers who never check morale if well treated). In Carcosa you are allowed to describe your henchmen as slaves or sorcerous thralls; some players have already worked this angle. Number of henchmen is based on Charisma so only 3 for you, unless you bump your Cha to 12 and get 4. 2) Love it, no objections.

Yeah... see this game for more interactions with a 2-headed halfling. odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=hinterlandsFYI, if you ever find a tree growing from the ceiling in an underground dungeon... I'd advice NOT eating the fruit from it. Unless you'd like your character to get a roll on a randomized effect table. (I assume it was random; might have been a whim kind of thing...)

lol nice. Yeah I learned in bible school as a kid that eating fruit off a tree was a bad idea. It's stuck with me into my D&D games. So is that how you ended up with 2 heads lol?

Apparently Desmond never went to halfling bible studies. Too busy out adventuring in the woods or sommit. Many gorged on the fruit; but only one swallowed the seed. Thus was born/grown Mondes, Desmond's second head. Fully separate mind functions, but sharing many body functions. Sometimes struggling for control of a left or right arm. I want to play around with some of this in the near future (once the game picks up pace again?). Things like, one of them fully submerging his head and "holding his breath" to look underwater while the other head stays above water and breathes deeply.

lol that's awesome. I'm sure it was a lot of fun to run, difficult but fun all the same.
Mush i'll start working out some of the details later today and get those to you, I think you and I only have a few more tweaks to work out.
