Not to get too far off topic, but I found a list of neat movies that are supposed to be released in 2008. Many of these are ones for which I have been waiting for a long time....
MAY: * Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull * Iron Man (more comic book goodness!) * Narnia 2: Prince Caspian
JUNE: * Incredible Hulk (more of a re-do than a sequel?)
JULY: * Dark Knight (sequel to “Batman Begins”; battles Joker) * Hellboy II (#1 was okay, but a bit strange) * X-Files Movie #2 (fun to see this come back)
AUGUST: * The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
NOVEMBER: * Bond 22 (yet another Bond movie!) * Harry Potter 6
DECEMBER: * Star Trek XI (early days of Kirk and Spock)

I'm looking most forward to Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I'm a little disappointed that (a) John Rhys-Davies isn't reprising his role as "Salah", & (b) saddened that actor Denholm Elliott ("Marcus Brody") passed away (quite a few years ago), but I'm hoping it's going to be a real knockout despite that. We'll just have to wait & see (it's only been 18 or so years, so (4) months won't kill us, right? ). Again, I hope it's good; I hope it's very very good... ;D

Looking most forward to Narnia, Heckboy and Bond (I didn't like Bond up until Casino Royale, which changed my mind).

When I first came to the USA as a small child, I was overwhelmed by the culture shock. I took refuge in a small theater that was running a movie unlike anything I'd ever seen before, with a blending of history and myth, sadistic villains, and a hero who survived more by brains than brawn. The film was Raiders of the Lost Ark, and as soon as I saw it I decided that maybe America wouldn't be so bad after all So anyway, the film I am most looking forward to is the new Indiana Jones. Iron Man also looks great, and I don't even read the comic! Price Caspian I have reservations over, simply because I recall it being the weakest of all the Narnia books. I am also looking forward to the new Bond. As far as I'm concerned, any Bond film made between the last Connery and the first Craig simply didn't exist. And of course I am looking forward to Dark Knight. I enjoyed the revisioning of the last Batflick and hope the second keeps up to the same high standards. Incredible Hulk, Hellboy II, Mummy III, and Harry VI I am pretty lukewarm about. I'll need to see something decent to get me revved up for any of these. Although I have good feelings about Hulk and Hellboy. As for anything X-Files or Star Trek themed; you can keep 'em. I never found either the slightest bit interesting. Now if they did a big Doctor Who movie, however.... Doc

I grew up on Classic Star Trek (the Kirk and Spock series of the 1960's) and a small part of me died with each movie. Every once in a while I'll get the urge and drag out my DVD sets...

The film was Raiders of the Lost Ark, and as soon as I saw it I decided that maybe America wouldn't be so bad after all By far my favorite of the series (& hands-down one of my all time favorites); I could watch that movie every day & never get bored with it. I was never too jazzed by the prequel "Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom (I don't even own it), but I did enjoy "Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade". But still, once again, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is my all time favorite. And always will be! ;D

For me, "Ark" is neck and neck with "Jason and the Argonauts"; I liked "Temple" much better than "Crusade" (although any flick with Sean Connery in it must be worth a watching in my book).

10,000 BC is the only movie I'm currently looking forward to in 2008, though I'm sure there will be others.

I like that "National Treasure" was made. There is hope for more Action Pulp in the future.
Who can forget the original Sinbad movies? Why haven't they made more since we no longer need Claymation for the creatures? =

Because Dynamation (and for that matter Claymation) has a special charm that CGI cannot match? It's also a labor-intensive and extremely personal art (the great Harryhausen working always on his own, keeping track of which way each of the Hydra's heads was moving ...). The few masters have chosen instead to produce such works as "James and the Giant Peach" and "Corpse Bride." No doubt we will see more Sinbad, if not from Disney then from some other studio. Have computers, will travel ...

Prince Caspian I have reservations over, simply because I recall it being the weakest of all the Narnia books. Actually, PC one of my favorites of the series. LWW is a good story as a standalone, but it always kind of bugged me because it lacked depth and cohesion. PC did a lot of retconning, but it created a more sustainable world and set the groundwork for the rest of the series to work. LWW was consigned to the distant past, which gave the world a sense of depth. Humans became the main race of the world, and the mix of mythological elements became less bizarre and more coherent. Perhaps you remember it as one of the weakest of the Narnia books simply because its plot is too similar to LWW. The Penvensies come to a Narnia in captivity, meet an ally (Beaver/Trumpkin), trek through the woods, join a Narnian army, the boys fight a battle, Aslan and the girls run through Narnia restoring freedom, the villain is slain and all is well, the Pevensies return to England. All the same, it's a pretty cool story. There's the whole tale of Caspian himself, which is new. His teaching by Cornelius. The intrigue among the Telmarines. The intrigue among Trufflehunter, Trumpkin, and Nikabrik. Silenus and Bacchus. It's fun. But, yeah, a little too much of a 'sequel' whereas the books after it branch out drastically. VDT should be out in 2009 and SC in 2010. They wanted the 'Caspian Trilogy' to come out back to back. Regards.

VDT and SC offer great material, if the franchise keeps going!

I saw the trailer for 10,000 BC the other night and it looks really cool- especially as fodder for an rpg campaign.

I'm pretty excited about most of those movies on the list. This should be a good year, methinks for movies. Not yet sure about X-files as I didn't watch any of the TV show. And Star Trek . . . I don't know what to think about what they are trying to do. It's going to be a huge mental block for me to hurdle over . . . and I don't know if it will happen. I'll most likely read all the reviews before deciding whether or not I'll bother. All the others - I will see for sure!!
