So there's this idea I came across regarding classes and saving throws - wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Basically Fighters get a bonus to saving throws involving physical activities, Magic-users get a bonus to saving throws involving magic and Clerics get a bonus to throws involving poison, disease and that sort of thing. Sounds good but my concern is whether it might be too favorable to the players. What do you think?

Relative to what? Each class already has separate save values in the save tables for each type of attack. Those values already reflect a superior save in some areas than other classes.

If you look, fighters have the best saves vs. Dragon breath--the traditional heroes job of confronting dragons. (also used as a catch all to save vs. Large and powerful objects like boulders and collapsing ceilings.
Mu have the best saves vs. Spells representing the ability to "counterspell" another wizards attack.
Clerics have the best saves vs. Death and poison as they are "life givers" and resist necromancy.
Thieves have the best saves vs rod/staff/ wand which is a save used for "thin beams" narrow attacks that can be nimbly dodged.
What you are proposing (as Alex pointed out) already exist. This is even explicitly stated in the 2e phb. Of course this is lost with the unified saving throws that are so popular nowadays and then neccistates new "skills" like counterspell for example that is a "sub rosa" skill previously reified by great game designers like gygax!

Yep, I know. wasn't my proposal, just an idea I came across and thought I'd throw out for commentary.
