This is interesting. Small blurb on page 22. Is there any other reference to this in the other supplements with regard to robots or androids? I don't recall anything in Holmes on this.

That's it for Robots and Androids. However, checking my Dungeonmaster's Index (by Dave Arneson), Golems are covered in Greyhawk (pp 19, 29, 33, 40, 65, 68), Eldritch Wizardry (p. 57), Gods, Demigods and Heroes (p 30) and the Strategic Review (#4, p 10; #6, p 14). Not sure if that helps, but it's fun to use my new index!

You have an Index? Is it available anywhere?

I was actually quite surprised to see it, when I found it. This was just last weekend, as I was doing my usual dig through the gaming stuff at my local Half Price Books.
I had only just become aware of such a thing, on the Acaeum website (and when I saw it listed there, I remember thinking "Yeah, right, like I'll ever get my hands on one of those.")
Who knew?
And the price was right -- 48 cents. I'm gonna keep checking back to see if they every get any more in. I'm sure a lot of people would like one. If anyone wants me to look anything up, just let me know.

Being a sci-fi fan, I was blown away. 'Course I'm also interested because Jim Ward and Rob Kuntz inspired and helped Gary come up with ideas for this mod. Quite a bit of the material in S3 was inspired in part on Rob's "Machine Level" in Castle Greyhawk. S3's quite the fun adventure!

The AD&D 2E boxed-set module "Tale of the Comet" also contains stuff with lasers and such. I don't recall it eing the best adventure, but I liked the concept of aliens invading a D&D-type world.

Rob's "Machine Level" in Castle Greyhawk. Is this where the Machine of Lum the Mad comes from?

FFC makes a connection between androids and zombies, I suppose in the same way that it makes a connection between laser guns and magic wands. Regards.

Also from FFC:
Robots: I roll one 6-sided dice for Armor Class and another dice for the number of Hit Dice. All Robots have a 10% chance of being able to throw one Lightning Bolt every turn for up to 20 Bolts.
Controller: Allows players to get Robots to do what the player wants, otherwise, there is only a 20% chance you can use the Robot, 20% chance it is defective, 60% that it is hostile.

(I cast Thread Necromancy!)There's a contribution to Alarums & Excursions that detailed androids as player characters. - No use of magic.
- Fighters, assassins only classes allowed (the latter may have originated in the Yeleth of Empire of the Petal Throne).
- Need to absorb energy through their skin on an on-going basis, so cannot wear armor, but take only half-damage from lightning bolts and fireballs.
- As they gain experience, they can either improve their stats, or go up a level. Each level increases their hit dice, armor class, and strength/move bonus.
- They must spend money (LOTS of money) to go up levels (encouragement to kill things and take their stuff, one supposes).
- They are immune to all spells that affect the mind as "they do not think and are not alive."
There's more there, but it's an interesting take on how to have this sort of thing as a player-character race. I immediately started thinking about how and why such things would come to be, and that led me down the path of asking another question (look under Philosophy....).

No references as such. Indeed, the terms are meant to inspire your imagination to create such beings for your own milieu. Of course, that's how all of OD&D is to be taken...
