I've always loved to play games set in present Argentina as the base scenario, but of course with some world travel.
I've played d20 modern a lot in this manner, but the problem is... the d20 system... I won't expand on that. The basic premises of the game work fine though.
So, which are the old-school, rules-light, games of modern adventure?
I have checked out Gangbusters, and it looks very good! With some mods, it should work well!
Which other games of modern era adventures exist? Games in tone with the ones of this forum.

Top Secret is fairly recent (late 70's). It's not as simple a system as Gangbusters, though. Other than that, I really couldn't say.

1. You might look for Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes. It runs on the same basic system as Tunnels & Trolls, only with skills added.
2. I second the motion with Gangbusters, particularly in light of the fact that there seem to be a couple of posters interested at the moment. It's a light system and seems pretty flexible for different eras.

It's a light system and seems pretty flexible for different eras. MSPE is a good system, especially if you already have experience with T & T. However, it's not without issues, the most prominent being IMHO the extreme lethality of fire-arms. There are work-arounds, i.e. house-rules, that you can use to get around this. Otherwise, the logical thing for the PC's to do when they find out the local corrupt mayor AND the sheriff are in kahoots with the Mafia is just to call the FBI and then hide under their beds until everything gets resolved rather than go out and start collecting evidence themselves. I believe Gangbusters is the cleanest percentile based system that came out of TSR. Boot Hill was the Grand Daddy of them all and was pretty cut down, then Top Secret and Star Frontiers piled a lot of stuff on them and then Gangbusters kind of distilled everything away but the essentials.
