The observations are more about B/X, but most are applicable to OD&D anyway. They also teach you how "to think" about the game. They are indeed very good.

Robert Fisher's musings were my first introduction to alternative thinking about D&D. Definitely worth a read.

Robert Fisher's musings were my first introduction to alternative thinking about D&D. Definitely worth a read. Same here. And yes! I was just starting to come back to the older, simpler games (such as B/X, for example) and had discovered a link to his writings on Grognard's Tavern if I recall correctly. Until then, the only reason I was coming back to the lighter and simpler games was exactly for that reason: lighter and simpler. Nothing more. Reading his thoughts really opened up my mind and put everything in a better perspective for me. I was able to see beyond the merit of the rules being easier mechanically. On the other hand, I felt like a real dope for not having realized most of what he wrote on.

Robert has some great thoughts and observations, and yes they work as well for OD&D as they do for B/X.
I don't agree with anyone 100% of the time, but he comes pretty close.

When I want to clear my head of gaming clutter I read Robert's reflections on B/X and Philotomy's OD&D Musings.

OHMIGD! (In a little, squealy valleygirl voice)
Okay, I recognized Robert Fishers name as I do a few others as being related to the game (mainly jealous that he was there instead of me -- what was he, five?) but nothing more.
I just finished a marathon session on his musings. Just about everything he said, I have said, often in the same words and where that isn't true, he has crystallized things I've thought but couldn't put into words.
All this, of course, means the man's a certifiable ... I'll go with genius.
Thanks for putting me onto his writings.

Robert Fisher, Jason Cone, and Trent Foster, among others, were all keeping the light burning in much darker times. They all deserve our profound gratitude, methinks.
