Okay, everyone, the Warriors of Mars PDF is updated using information that falconer posted in his monster compilation. Essentially what we got out of it is four or five new monsters. I didn't include his indexing information, since many who will be using it don't have WoM (and don't have access to it), but in the future that might make its way in somewhere... As always you can download it at www.grey-elf.com/And as always it's meant to have the body (pages 2-29) printed out using Acrobat's booklet printing function, with the cover printed separately using Acrobat's "Multiple Pages Per Sheet / 2 / Horizontal Reversed" Print settings.

Jason, why not just format the document so that it can all be printed in one hit using the booklet printing function by adding in blank pages for such things as the inside front cover, etc.? It would make it much easier to print. Another option is to use the online Booklet Creator website, which will produce a ready to print, no settings to change booklet. Besides that, I'm looking forward to seeing the new additions in the book. Thanks once again.

It's a matter of preference, greyharp. Booklet creator's booklets aren't readable on screen, and I hate that. I prefer PDF documents to come up page by page--not everyone wants to print it, and since Acrobat Reader has a handy "booklet printing" function, the problem is solved.
I have made a deliberate choice to produce my books the way I do--they are formatted just like any PDF you'd buy from RPGNow or DriveThru--cover, then interior.
My way allows the printing of the interior on a black and white printer, and the cover on a color. I really don't see the issue with taking an extra step to print the cover; it's not difficult to do at all. It's really not even complicated...

No worries Jason, different strokes for different folks - the RPGNow way of doing things has always really annoyed me - but that's just me. Thanks for the printing tip, I've been making life hard for myself by increasing the viewing size to 200%, using the snapshot tool to highlight half the cover, then printing the selected image. Very tiresome. I'll try your way next time.

This is wonderful - it really captures the feel of OD&D and Warriors of Mars. Although my game is B/X rather than OD&D per se, I can use everything here without much converting.
Thinking about Beastmasters, though, Thuvia would have to be very high level to control banths the way she does. Perhaps 11HD is a bit high for a banth? Warriors of Mars gives them 7 wounds...
Great stuff, though.

And yes, using the print settings "Multiple pages per sheet / 2 / Horizontal Reversed," and setting it to only print page range "1-1" (or just "current page" if you're on the title page) is the way to perfectly print the covers [EDIT]Nano, thanks for the comment--I'll pay attention to these kinds of things and make fixes as needed based on comments like this in future revisions.

You should ask this guy's permission to add his Barsoomian name table.

Hey Jason, I was just grabbing a copy of the updated WoM from your site - awesome supplement, that!
I saw you have a complation of Philotomy's Musings and was curious how up to date that is, and if you have any intention of updating it at any point in the future. It's a mighty handy little volume.
Thanks!

As far as I know it's up to date. I'm not being obsessive about keeping it up--it's only there with Philotomy's blessing, and the moment he withdraws that blessing the PDF goes away as well--but when I notice a new musing I try and stick it in there.

Good to know! I just ask since the copyright date in the front is still 2007. Thanks Jason.

I just printed out the entire pdf & its fantastic. I was just rereading A Princess of Mars & saw this page. I believe I just heard WoC die a bit as this was zipping through the printer.

Thanks, but again Doc deserves more of the credit than me--the creative work is all his, save a few of the monsters which are a combination of falconer's and mine. I just organized it and did the layout and formatting.

I'm a little late, but I thought I'd point out that the booklet is missing a write-up for the calot--you know, the martial war dogs.

What's become of this little gem of a supplement? I lost my downloaded copy to a thumb-drive that has quit working and I can't for the life of me find the copy that I printed off last fall. I'd like to re-obtain a copy of this pdf if it's at all possible.

Thanks.

thegreyelf: Sorry about the direct line. I should have known better. I originally was going to PM this to tacojohn, but decided that the link to the web page would be good to post for all. I forgot to delete the link to the file when I copied & pasted it into the forum post. My bad. What's especially ironic is that I recently complained about this myself on another forum. Talk about putting my foot in my mouth! On a side note, you might want to try hosting files using Google Docs, Google Sites, or via a service like Dropbox or Box.com. There are enough legitimate free file hosting sites online that you shouldn't have to pay bandwith fees for hosting files on your own sites or servers. Avoid the piracy-prone sites like Mediafire and Rapidshare, as they might soon get raided and shut down like Megaupload. I use Google Sites, DropBox, and Box.com to host files for my sites (http://rendedpress.blogspot.com and http://poetrymidwest.org). @finarvyn: no harm, no foul. I'd rather you nip the problem in the bud with that wicked Admin-Fu than allow me to unknowingly continue to create ill will. I didn't check into the board yesterday or I would have seen the message. Sorry for the slow response.

I'd rather keep the files on my own site where I have better control over them. I don't trust Google, Dropbox, or the like for file hosting.

thegreyelf: Sorry about the direct line. I should have known better. Don't beat yourself up over it. I'm not sure I would have known better. (Now I'm trying to think about times when I've posted links on message boards and I'm hoping I haven't been doing this to lots of good people...)

I'm just bumping this up because the last activity from 2012 says that many folks around here might not realize that the OD&D Warriors of Mars supplement exists on my site. I can't take credit for writing it--I just added a few monsters and stuff. But I did the layout and have been hosting it since Doc did it back in '12.
