A long time ago, I just remembered, I found these four documents online---I have no idea where. They seem to be someone else's attempt to use the Chainmail Fantasy Supplement as a playable system. Any idea who created them?

Very interesting. I don't particularly agree with the magic system. As a seer is 2nd level in d&d, magician 4th, a warlock 6th, a sorcerer 7 and a wizard is 9th and spell complexity able to be cast was later made to be 1/2 level rounded up and the wizard is meant to be equal to the super-hero not the hero as evidenced by the fantasy combat table with the wizard defeating and defending against monsters on par with s. hero and not hero.
So the pdf's assertion that a wizard is 5th level is clearly wrong.
Also, there very well could be an implied memorization system. A magician (4th level) only knows 4 spells (2/2 in d&d) If he had 5 spells in his spell book a referee could simply inform him that he can only memorize 4 of them and he would need a day to study to switch out one of his spells if he wanted to. Further more, the way I read the optional spell failure rule is that it would only be used in combat (similar to the ad&d weapon vs. casting time rule)
Nice documents though, I especially like the combat pdf.

I've had copies of these for years and think overall they are quite well done. I agree that RtB sometimes moves a bit afield of the source material, but he has some good ideas. I've been trying to nudge him on K&K to update, but he seems to have quit visiting there.

Like, an actual MAIA?? Huh? Moms Against Internet Addiction? Recall that in Tolkien's mythology the Maia were like angels or demons. The wizards were Maia (not human), as were the Balrogs and some others. MAIA is also Mutated Anamorphic Insectoid Assassins. :-)

Yeah, that was a lame Tolkien joke. However, I'm all for Mutated Anamorphic Insectoid Assassins...
