Shortly after 11pm on Tuesday, April 7th, Dave Arneson passed away. He was comfortable and with family at the time and his passing was peaceful. The Arneson family would like to thank everyone for their support over the last few days, and for the support the entire community has shown Dave over the years. We are in the process of making final arrangements and will provide additional details as we work them out. We will continue to receive cards and letters in Dave's honor. We are planning to hold a public visitation so that anyone wishing to say their goodbye in person has the opportunity to do so. Cards and letters can continue to be sent: Dave Arneson 1043 Grand Avenue Box #257 St. Paul, MN 55105 Visitation will be on April 20th Time: yet to be determined Address: Bradshaw Funeral Home 687 Snelling Avenue South St. Paul, MN 55105 We have a small website set up to post current information. Website can be found HERE

I can't begin to say how pleased I am to hear this. I had been told by someone who is close to Dave that he had passed away. I am both glad that this is not the case, even as I am embarrassed that my source was mistaken.

As a former student of Dave's, I can only wish the best for him and the family at this time. I hope he is comfortable at the hospice and they are treating him well.

Well, I'm glad to hear he hasn't passed yet, but hospice care generally means he's very close to the end. Hopefully they're keeping him as comfortable as possible, and he has a peaceful and painless passing. Here's to Dave.

My condolences to the Arneson family - it's good that he passed with family. He leaves behind many of us who appreciate him. If there's anything that we can do, as a community, please let us know.

I was looking for something today that would best express my respect and admiration for Dave. I came across this quote which best sums up my opinion of him:
"There is a great man who makes every man feel small. But the real great man is the man who makes every man feel great." - G. K. Chesterton
Dave's creations did make every man feel great. If only for few hours around the table, surrounded by friends, Dave made it possible for everyone to achieve great things. For that, I am profoundly grateful.
My sincerest condolences to Dave's family and friends.

I also extend my deepest sympathies. For the past 20+ years and moreso the past 12, the hobby he helped create has been a constant source of joy for me and my best friends.
Thank You.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Arneson family and friends.
Thank You Dave for all your works over the years- I even had a copy of Adventures in Fantasy back around 1981 or so.
RIP

'Tis one of the two saddest days the industry has ever seen, easily equal to the day Gary Gygax passed.
Here's to hoping Dave and Gary can finally mend broken fences in Heaven. I'm sure there's a whole line of gamers up there waiting to play at their tables.
And with that, I post the following parting words from the grandfather of swords and sorcery
All fled, all done So lift me on the pyre The feast is over The lamps expire --Robert E. Howard

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Arneson Family. I'm glad for the great contribution Dave made to D&D and RPGs and it was cool that he hung out here and traded posts with us. And it was quite interesting to hear his view of those early games and also insightful to learn about his gaming and campaign world. Dave will be remembered! May he Rest In Peace.
