Here's my attempt at an "Appendix N", inspired by this thread:

*Confirmed*
Robert Adams
Poul Anderson
Robert Heinlein
Frank Herbert
Robert E. Howard
Fritz Leiber
John Norman
J. R. R. Tolkien
*Possible*
Homer
Edgar Rice Burroughs
H. P. Lovecraft
Michael Moorcock
*TV & Movies*
Monster movies: King Kong (1933), The Wolf Man (1941), The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Them! (1954), Godzilla (1954), It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), Tarantula (1955), The Blob (1958), Dracula (1958), The Mummy (1959), Mothra (1962), Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Star Trek (1966-1969)
Kung Fu (TV series) (1972-1975)
Bruce Lee movies: The Big Boss (1971), Fist of Fury (1972), Way of the Dragon (1972) and Enter the Dragon (1973)
Star Trek is the only thing on this list that I'm sure Dave Arneson watched; everything else here is included because just it seems like the sort of thing he *might* have watched and enjoyed.
In the interview in Fight On #2 Dave Arneson also mentions Mike Stackpole, Gordon R. Dickson and M. A. R. Barker as being among his favourite authors or game designers.
Mike Stackpole was a friend of Dave Arneson. He has written many rpg products (e.g. for Flying Buffalo the Citybooks series and many Tunnels and Trolls books) and tie-in novels (particularly for Battletech and Star Wars). He has also written some original fantasy novels.
Gordon R. Dickson is primarily a science-fiction writer but also wrote some fantasy novels, notably The Dragon and the George (1976).
M. A. R. Barker is of course the author of the Empire of the Petal Throne RPG, and refereed the Tekumel campaign in which Dave Arneson was a player.
Anyone have any ideas for any other fiction with a "Blackmoorish" feel to it?
Such as the film Outlander (2008) which havard mentions on his blog here:
