Session #11
- Farned, separated from the party, finally breaks out of the spiked door and meanders his way through Quasqueton. He eventually comes to some double doors, and smashes them down. He finds himself in a library. After exhaustively searching through some shelves, he selects some books then decides to rest.
The rest of the party decides to head back into the complex, and after winding through some corridors, decide to investigate a door. Unlocking it and opening it, the party finds itself taking missile fire from gnolls hiding behind a bed and an upturned table. Delva had been caught in a net for a few rounds, while Tig, jumping over the bed, found himself outnumbered. Things took a turn for the worse when a door in the room opened and two hobgoblins joined the gnolls. Tig was precariously close to death when a gnoll had been felled by a combination of Beulah's slingstones and the swordplay of Delva. The head gnoll suggested a ceasefire, and the party agreed. Slowly backing away from the humanoids, the party headed out while watching the gnolls gather the body of the dead hyena-man.
The party, armed with the suggestion that Bethesda may be with the kobolds, decided to head south, as that was the direction the gnolls suggested. Eventually, they made their way to a corridor which presented two doors about 20' from each other. Opening the first, they found the corridor beyond lead to more turns and another door. Opening that, the party found a workshop with two surprised troglodytes. Delva tried to write a note to the two reptilians, which had mistaken it for food. Delva tried to pantomime to communicate with them, and using more vellum sheets as bribes, seemed to be making progress. Tig decided that this would be a wonderful time to try to backstab the troglodytes, but found his attempt only infuriated them instead of wounding them. A remarkable job of diplomacy on Delva's part put the hostilities to a close, as he offered more vellum to the trogs, who were yelling in their native tongue and smashing objects in the workshop. The battle scent of the lizards filled the room, causing Beulah and Serenus to retch. Delva yanked Tig into the hallway and reluctantly left the troglodytes to stew.
Deciding to try the second door in the corridor, the party opened it to find a dusty bedroom. Farned had thought he heard the comings and goings of the party, and letting out a howl, gained their attention. Eventually, he found the party. As Farned was still in wereboar form, Delva of course attacked him. Luck wasn't on Delva's side, however, and the silver hammer of Sigmar slipped from his grasp and skittered out of the room into the hallway. Farned slammed the cavalier with another bag of coppers, which burst upon impact, causing Silas to resume his coin gathering ways. Serenus, having been terrified of Farned's appearance, noticed the secret door in the far wall and wasted no time opening it and escaping beyond it, with Beulah following close behind. Tig took an initial stab at Farned, which only provoked the wereboar's frenzy, so Tig went to escape with the rest as well. Bones, hiding under the bed at first, soon followed suit. The frenzied lycanthrope delivered deep gashes into the body of the elf, sending him to death's door and beyond. Perhaps it was his strong martial training or his swown devotion to his code that kept him alive, but Delva, sensing another strike against him would surely be the death of him, retreated out of the complex.
Serenus found another secret door to at the north end of the corridor, and upon opening it, the remainder of the party found themselves face to face with a surprised group of goblins. Defusing an aggressive Tig, Bones was able to convince the goblins that a terrible creature was behind them. Clambering into the goblins' room, the party saw them seal the door shut and barricaded it with every stick of furniture and miscellany they could find. Silas pounded on the door, demanding to be let in lest he be torn asunder. Farned followed the thief into the corridor.
Silas realized that Farned was looking at him hold his coins. Silas immediately began offering the wereboar all of the coppers he had, including the gold pieces he took from the dresser and the 25 gold pieces he swiped before sharing the rest with the party. He even offered some carpentry tools he took from the work room. As Farned paused to pick up the coin, Silas took the opportunity to hightail it out of there.
Delva, bleeding everywhere, staggered out of Quasqueton and slumped over his horse. It carried him the ten miles to Providence Ridge, where he hoped to find healing in time to mend his grievous wounds.
Farned pounded on the secret door, asking the party to let him in. The goblins, fearing for the worst, opened another secret door and fled out of Quasqueton, followed right behind by the party. Leaving through the secret door in the second alcove, the party saw a swarm of giant centipedes not far away. Paying the insects no mind, they party fled from the scene. Deciding to regroup back in town and meet up with Delva, the party headed west back to the village.
Delva's horse had guided him back into town safely, and making his way to the temple of Sigmar again, Delva collapsed. The party found that he had been taken by the temple and was undergoing a critical healing ceremony as they spoke. They party would be able to see him on the morrow, but today was out of the question. Finding the inn, the party decided to relax with a bit of alcohol. Tig, unable to find a battle axe in town, decided to find any dwarves. Learning a recent group had just arrived in town, Tig soon tracked them down and made their acquaintances. Delighted by his stores, the dwarves made their way back to the inn and ordered a keg of ale to keep the good times rolling. Bones grew tired of dwarven drunkenness, and retired to his room. Tig found that a well-attired and escorted Silas showed up in town. Apparently, Silas had recovered a number of items the party left behind in its haste, and quickly converted these into wealth and possessions once he got back to town.
Farned went to the camp of the wereboars, who told him that he could decide to revoke his lycanthropy only if he decided to this very night. Sensing his calling from Nurgle, the shaman realized Farned's true destiny. Farned agreed that he would undergo the removal ceremony, understanding that he would never be able to return to this camp again. After it was over, he came back to town.
Returning to the inn, he saw Tig speaking with the dwarves. Excusing himself, Tig spoke with Farned and asked what was going on. Seeing Farned completely normal in the moonlight, Tig was confused but somewhat relieved. Having had a full day's adventure, the party retired for the night.
