Looking over the combat matrix, I see at the high extremes of defense vs. attack values that a '1' or less is required to hit rolling 2d6. I've looked over the combat rules but haven't seen anything about modifying the attack roll, only for modifying combat strength. Are there modifiers I've missed that would make it possible to roll a '1' or less on 2d6? Or is this simply considered an impossible hit? Many thanks for any clarification that can be provided on this.

As my daughter would say, April Fools! Ed you are right on the money. There is no way I know of to roll a one under the rules as written It is normally an impossible hit. So why are they there? Two reasons: First its a homage to the Assasins table in Supp. II with its one percent chances and because of what Tim Kask said about that table - that it was a fantasy game where anything might be possible; Second because I anticipated that people would be houseruling any and all parts of the game or lifting things to use in thier D&D games so those 1's might be useful in those contexts. Very observant question!

Thanks for the clarification. I figured the '1' was left in the table for follow through. I suppose if you convert to a percentile system the '1' then becomes more useful. Many thanks.

I just play it as "you have to roll snake-eyes, than roll a seperate die -- 1,2 or 3 is a hit."

It's especially good when you keep you're players in the dark about what numbers they need to hit. The first time it came up in actual play Ariana rolled snake-eyes and the table started cheering and I inturrupted them by saying "Now roll a single die -- and roll low!" Priceless.
