Just noted the Advanced Edition book for LL. Between this and the Original Edition book, I can have all of my old school goodness in one game!
Kudos to Dan Proctor--dude has come a long way since his first submission to Eden Studios Presents nine years ago or so...
My only gripe is that I dug the purple cover to LL better than the B&W revised cover. But that's minor.

It's a good thing the 2nd printing PDF is still just fine to distribute, and there are plenty of hard copies floating around. I like how the purple cover matches Mutant Future.

Well, I own the purple cover myself. Anyone know what the differences are between that and the newer revised edition? Would've been nice to see some sort of errata or list of changes somewhere...

Excellent, thanks! I'd spend more time at the GG forums, but I have too many boards to follow as it is. Heh.

I think it would be so cool for LL and the AEC to be logically blended together into a single tome.

I think it would be so cool for LL and the AEC to be logically blended together into a single tome. Why not go one step further and do a LL + OEC + AEC combination? Cover 0e, Basic and Advanced all in one volume.

I also have the Purple cover and like it a lot. The B&W one doesn't jump out quite as much on the shelf at the game store. (I thought it would since most games are color, but it seems to fade into the background somehow.) Nice to know that the new edition isn't significantly different. I think it would be so cool for LL and the AEC to be logically blended together into a single tome. An interesting concept. Maybe Dan'll ponder this eventually. At the moment he's probably trying to relax from the work it took to get the AEC put together. Thumbs up, Dan!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I'll have to think about what to do with the separate books, but not for a while. I also am finishing up this pesky PhD dissertation, aiming to have my complete draft done at the end of March. So I have to let RL take over for a while. Kudos to Dan Proctor--dude has come a long way since his first submission to Eden Studios Presents nine years ago or so... Thanks Jason. Man, has it been that long? It feels like a completely different lifetime. A whole lot of water under the bridge since then!

The kudos are well deserved, Dan. I can't wait to get my copy of the AEC. And yeah, there's been a LOT of water flowed under that bridge. Hah. Honestly, great work. I think you've got the best of all the retro-clones going.

This book is a gem. It doesn't try to copy whatever was AD&D, but captures the very essence of it instead, and casts it back at us as an unique system while maintaining consistent compatibility with both Labyrinth Lord and OSRIC or Castles & Crusades. I can't say how useful it is in getting back to the way we really played.

It absolutely is. It's cemented LL as my favorite of the retro-clone games. My only gripe about AEC is that I would've liked to see the combat system set to Unarmored = AC10, with matching attack tables. But in the end, that's an exceptionally minor gripe.

That would run counter to the purpose of keeping the game compatible with the core of Labyrinth Lord. Besides, AD&D monsters are on the Unarmored AC 9 scale, so why not PCs as well?

As I said, it's an exceptionally minor gripe and not one that remotely affects my love of the supplement/game.

The AEC definitely put LL at the top of the retro-clone heap. Its exactly the way we played back in the early '80s. I actually did put together a combination of AEC and LL. It was not too difficult since you can basically replace the first 30 page of LL with the first 30 of AEC. I broke it up into a player and GM section and had to create a new table of contents for the GM section. I used the alternative red cover and modified it slightly with Paint. I then took it to Kinko's and had the front and back cover laminated and spiral bound the whole thing. It ended up being 245 pages. It totally rules! OEC, I of course had to print out digest sized with a brown cardstock cover.

I dug the purple cover to LL better than the B&W revised cover. But that's minor. Agreed. Purple cover rocks! I'll have to look into the Advanced book. Sounds worthwhile.

Thread necromancy! The Advanced Labyrinth Lord Kickstarter is finally here. I freely admit that this is how we played AD&D back in the day (when we were really playing B/X Plus).

Hrm. $43 or $44 for a print-on-demand book. When you can get the beautiful traditionally printed OSRIC for $26. And it has many more monsters and treasures.

Did they fix all the errata in the AEC book for this new printing? Anyone know thanks, I am on the fence on it due to that for one reason.
