Some of you have mentioned Lloyd Alexander and his fine Chronicles of Prydain. You may not have heard it but he passed away earlier this year. I finished re-reading all of the Chronicles today as my daughter lay sleeping in her crib. I cried for the loss of this fine writer, I am unashamed to say. Too many of our favorite authors have passed on over the years, and yet this is the natural course of things. I truly hope that more would be authors pick up the plume and mantle of the juvenile fantasy author. Perhaps more than ever we need more writers like this in our world today. What new stories will inspire my daughter, or your children?

Yeah, I've got to read this. I've had it on my shelf since the mid '80s after playing the old Sierra Online computer game - The Black Cauldron. Man, I've got to get caught up on my fantasy reading.

Perhaps if we keep giving these classics to our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, some of them will grow up to be those writers!
