Thought of a new idea for this.
You can declare a dodge at any time. Attacker gets -2 on attack roll. However, if the attacker misses, the attacker can move you 0-10 feet ((d3-1)x5, or d12-2, whatever - or maybe just 5 feet fixed if you don't like extra rolls), and has the option to follow none, part, or all the way him or her self. If there are pits, ledges, traps etc. nearby and you are maneuvered into them, make a save or something to avoid.
The attacker option here is especially good if the attacker has initiative, because a successful dodge might still cause you to lose your attack later on. But even if you've already attacked you can get pushed into things, break formation so they can get at the mage, etc.
Any thoughts or tweaks?

You might consider a positive modifier for high DEX, and a negative modifier for low scores.
Thieves (if you use them) should also get positive modifiers, since they are used to employing their agility and superior mobility against foes.

Dood, ((d3-1)x5??? A formula with double parentheses I do like it, though, since it makes dodging a, well, dodgier thing to do---it makes it more desperate, which fits with the more abstract combat in ODD. It's not so much that you're dodging a particular swing, but that in a desperate attempt to avoid getting hit in the overall melee, you've disadvantaged yourself. It also works as a useful secondary tactic for those with no armor... No formulas, though---I like any chance to use a d12!

Thieves should perhaps be able to dodge without getting pushed, or maybe with only a 50% chance to get pushed...
