Whereas the main focus of the basic system is upon Materials, the expanded system uses Time as an essential part of the casting process. Higher level spells take longer to cast. Higher level mages can cast them quicker.
Now in the book, this way of casting, Elfin magic, uses song as the form through which casting takes place (low level=Ramones song length, high level=Rush).
So..you don't wanna use Elves or song magic in your game. Remember the key is some action and the time it takes:
- Indian Temple Dancers moving in a sacred routine that invokes power. the High Priestess may just require a few hand movements.
- Chanting Monks, maybe in a Ruins & Ronin-type setting.
- In a fairy tale setting, a child is taught a protection rhyme by her mother for when she travels through the forest.
- Psi-Lords of the Planet Wibble concentrating to alter reality.
- Alien sex magic,
Any more ideas ?

Geomancers of the high plains create fantastic effects by altering the environment around them. As their training advances they become more in tune with the ley lines and mysterious energies of the earth. It is rumored that the grand masters can warp the very fabric of reality simply by moving a single pebble.
