What are thoughts concerning a Holmes or OD&D rules-based version of EPT. Basically, using the world, extensive background, monsters, etc. and fitting them into a OD&D framework.
I am not a huge fan of the OEPT rules, even though they are based on and very similar to OD&D already, I much prefer the OD&D and Holmes version of the rules.
What do you think? Pointless, stupid, waste of time, awesome?

It's not as though you're going to end up in Tolek Kana for such suggestions. Seriously though, it has been commented quite a few times that Tekumel as a campaign setting is fairly flexible from a system p.o.v. Looking from here, issues such as magic system and, to a lesser degree, old tech would require to be addressed/shoe-horned in appropriately to D&D since Tekumel was neither written for, nor adapted to D&D despite the closeness in original mechanics/system ethos in its EPT incarnation. IMHO, it's a good candidate for freeform RP given the depth of world creation - depending perhaps to a degree on what material one has available, although there are also earlier time-periods ripe for the picking. 02c, anyhow.

With all the rule versions and conversions floating around, it may have already been done. =

I'm not familar with such a rules set, but would be interested if you get anything put together. The original EPT rules were very OD&D-like so hopefully such a conversion would be pretty easy to accomplish.
Were you thinking of stopping level progression at 3rd as Holmes does, or is your intent to follow the general Holmes model but not the Holmes level limitations?

Initially, I would like to keep the Holmes' level limits, play as such for some time, see how it works. Once that has been established, and any kinks worked out, expand up to 9th level a la Meepo.
I have not started anything yet. I am merely brainstorming at the moment.

The original EPT rules were very OD&D-like so hopefully such a conversion would be pretty easy to accomplish. Barker's original publication was even more like D&D than TSR's release. It would have been interesting indeed if it had been marketed as a supplement from the start, but there was so much material more-or-less ready to go, costing TSR little or nothing in development, that pretty box sets at $25 each must've been a far more tempting approach than even a series of relatively boring-looking $5 booklets.
