Here's something I thought up as an imagination-jogger. I assume that wanting riches and power and glory is common to ALL adventurers; the reasons given are those that may vary from person to person. Some are material circumstances, some are psychological, some have a bit of both.
RANDOM REASONS TO BE A DUNGEON EXPLORER TABLE
Roll d10 or choose. Use imagination, think how result applies to your PC. Consider other PCs' results as well -- is there a connection?

6 Need to get strong and finish business
7 Obsessed with hitting the jackpot
8 Delusions of grandeur
9 Escaped from captivity
