OK, I've decided to try this with my gaming group. Last time we got together, we spent some time skirmishing minis and such with Heroscape tiles. So, I thought to try jousting as another thing we could do, to add a little spice to our regular gaming. So I bought this from Lego: castle.lego.com/en-us/Products/Castle/7009.aspx ;D Well, most of my group consist of my young nephews, but I think it might be fun to try. Target had some other larger figures from Schleich that were superb, but lots more money: Has anyone else, ever done any jousting with the Chainmail rules?

Wow. I've used the rules for occasional tournaments, but have never gone to the extremes you have done. Mostly I use them when I run "King Arthur" Camelot style games, because otherwise I rarely have noblity who are interested in the joust.
I like the miniatures and may have to track something like this down myself.
Oh, and for atmosphere be sure to show A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger. It might inspire the non-participants to have some sort of roles in the tourney, like announcing the knight and his accomplishments. Great fun!

Good idea ~ re: that movie. I haven't seen it, but would like to. Heh, when my nephews come over for gaming, we generally watch classic fantasy/action movies . . . Jason, Excalibur, Ulysses, Conan, Hercules, Clash of the Titans, etc. after the game - in the evening. But perhaps a pre-game set of movies: Knights of the Round Table: www.imdb.com/title/tt0045966/Black Shield of Falworth: www.imdb.com/title/tt0046789/and the classic ~ Adventures of Robin Hood: www.imdb.com/title/tt0029843/Aside: In The Adventures of Robin Hood ~ there's a scene that totally looks like the back cover of B2 (my avatar). Mebbe, when the group is disguised and marching back to the castle dressed as monks of the abbey towards the end. ;D

Interesting. Tim Kask had some thoughts on the jousting matrix in Chainmail in a post on DF, where I suggested that maybe he might want to stage a tournament at the next LGGC. Tim wrote:

Oh, my gosh! I totally forgot about that movie. My pappy and I used to sit and watch that one over and over. Tony Curtis as a squire. Great movie! Oh, and I should warn you a little about A Knight's Tale. If you're looking for true authentic knight stuff, this isn't it. They take modern music (like "We Will Rock You" by Queen) and put it in with jousting scenes. Very tongue-in-cheek and cheezy in places, but I love the film. Just thought you'd want to know that it wasn't as serious as some of the others out there. ;D

I'm putting together a solo game and using the Outdoor Survival map as a basis of the wilderness. I'm going to use the Jousting rules if they come up as a party passes by a castle. By the way, great choices of movies. Here's a couple you may have missed:
Flesh and Blood The Vikings Alexander Nevsky The Thief of Baghdad-original silent version! Ladyhawke Ivanho-made for tv 80's movie, very nice!
By the way, kudos for mentioning The Black Shield of Falworth!

Yeah, we used to play Jousting Tourneys. What fun. And kudos for Black Shield and Knights of the Round Table. Glad to hear it was fun, I gotta try it. And thanks, I forgot to mention another great movie that I watch a few weeks ago ~ Prince Valiant. Doggone funny/absurd with some cheesy action but very entertaining. James Mason is a great villain and the jousting scenes were excellent, IMO. www.imdb.com/title/tt0047365/Oh, and Victor McLaglen (Squire Dannaher in The Quiet Man with the Duke) was just hilarious as a Viking! ;D

A fun way to pass the time in school. I made up some sort of tables and we did it at lunch or when the teacher wasn't watching closely.

Say, does anybody have a good, clear image of the article in an early issue of The Dragon that modified the jousting matrix to account for level?
I saw one once upon a time over at the Grognard's Tavern, but it was a jpg that proved illegible.
