I would like to investigate the origins of the monsters that appear in the Blackmoor 4E First Campaign Sourcebook.
A quick summary:
Afridhi -
Fanatic human warrior folk from the West. I think they first appeared in DA4.
Beastman -
I'm wondering if these could be a legacy of the Mystara connection. Mystara canon postulates that in the Blackmoor Era, a race of Beastmen who were the ancestors of Orcs and goblins had not yet developed into these younger races.
Broadgrin -
Aka Gatormen. These appeared first in DA4. They also appear in later Mystara products.
Camarilla -
These are the lizards trained and used by Sandfolk. IIRC, they first appeared in DA3.
Frogmen -
First place I saw stats for them were in DA2, though they were mentioned in Supplement II.
Goblin, Ash -
These first appeared in D20 DA Blackmoor. They are goblins who have become mutated due to living near the City of the Gods.
Naliseth -
I am guessing these are an adaptation of the BECMI creatures called Sea Serpents. Or perhaps a version of OD&D's "Sea Monster"? The First Campaign also links them to Skandaharian myths as well as suggests they may have been created by the Egg of Coot.
Orc, Balebourne -
These have been discussed elsewhere. They first appeared in D20 DA Blackmoor.
Sandfolk -
These first appeared in DA3. They are the four armed creatures guarding the Valley of the Ancients. Mystara fan lore suggests the they were brought to this world by the Beagle from the next planet out in the solar system.
Skandaharian -
Viking-like human barbarians. There appeared already in the FFC. There are also stats for them in DA4.
Spirit Animal -
I think these first appeared in Riders of Hak D20. They are connected to the Peshwa IIRC.
Thoul -
This is legendary OD&D Creature. (Edit: I cant find this in the OD&D books? Did it first appear in BECMI?) They have also been associated with Mystara to the extent of appearing in the AD&D Mystara Monsterous Compendium.
Thrall of Coot -
These are humanoids of various races who have come under the control of the Egg of Coot. They are mentioned in the FFC:
Woodscar Splinter -
I am wondering if these Treant-like creatures are adaptations of Gakkarak which appeared in DA4. There could also be some connection to the Redwood Scar here.
Thoughts?

Thrall of Coot -
These are humanoids of various races who have come under the control of the Egg of Coot. They are mentioned in the FFC:
3) All close servants of the Egg, undergo mental conditioning that is aimed at crushing all their mental initiative. This is then replaced by the over- whelming desire to serve the Egg and do _exactly_ as it wished. Part of the standard conditioning has them believing that all the Egg does and communicates is good and right with all unbelievers being those jealous of the Egg's perfection and should be treated accordingly.
Woodscar Splinter -
I am wondering if these Treant-like creatures are adaptations of Gakkarak which appeared in DA4. There could also be some connection to the Redwood Scar here.
