Started to run Tower of Birds late into last weeks regular Tuesday night gaming session. The adventure is written by Gabor "melan" Lux and found in Fight On! #2. I am running the adventure (which should wrap up this Tuesday) using the play-test rules for my forthcoming RPG, Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea. The adventure was easily converted to the setting of Hyperborea, and I found melan's writing to be crisp and easy to work with. More importantly than anything, the 6 men on the other side of my screen are enjoying the adventure. Cheers, Jeff T.

Let me know how it goes. As others have said, it is a bit linear, but both times I ran it, the participants got a good mileage out of it - some of the encounters give pretty nice opportunities for player skill-driven problem-solving, particularly the room complex, the Obviously Trapped Treasure and the place where you can climb on the outside of the tower to an opposite room. Plus there is a tough set-piece battle, and then the treasure makes for interesting complications... well, it lead to the "reverse murder mystery" I mentioned in the text -- I was using Stone Gullet, which was published in the latest issue of the magazine. Anyhow.

I'm laying out Stone Gullet shortly.
Actually, crap. I should get Kelvin to do some art for that!

I'm laying out Stone Gullet shortly. Actually, crap. I should get Kelvin to do some art for that! I have pictures of the fortress itself, Palmedies, Krandol and Sthran Mirza and Ezilim Bek. I think I might have a go at the Amazons too, if I can get a clearer description (because all my sketches are making them look like Blaxploitation Charlie's Angels!). Also, what is a "svitza"? Sthran Mirza is wearing one, but I have no idea what it is!

Amazons: clad in simple chain shirts and helmets, definitely not the popular slu.tmail of trash fantasy. Fair of complexion and hair, not particularly friendly. svitza: Cossack clothing, basically a long lambskin coat - image reference here (something like any one of these folks would do).

I didn't do the Amazons in the end, as I didn't think I could do them justice, but Calithena should now have some images of some of the other personalities inhabiting the fort.
