...I've been playing D&D for 30 years, this year.
I feel deliciously venerable, now.

My first time was in 81, so I still have a few years yet (and I started with a whole different game, too...)
But I still get a kick out of explaining to the children at the table that "I've been gaming longer than you've been alive!"

Gosh! you guyz R all NOOBZ! :-) When I started we had to carve our dice out of Rocks! And the rule books were drawn on cave walls! (End of delirious rant)
Seriously, I started in summer 1975, and never believed the game would become what is did. OD&D is one of a handful of classics, like Panzer Blitz that just gets attention when you break it out and start setting up. It really is hard to imagine how I would have filled all that time had I not gotten into the game.

Hey, C'wiz, Tabasco Junkie and I have an annual Panzer Blitz game at Reapercon each year. If you make it down there, we can have a round-robin tournament on Saturday night.

It was before the Big Bang, so randomness hadn't been invented. There was only one place to play. In fact there was only one place. It was an infinitely small point, so it was always pretty cramped too.
