Is it true that '% Lair' was misprinted '% Liar', and that the creator of Arduin interpreted it as the chance for a monster to lie to the player-characters, or is this just an urban myth?

100% True.
Quote from AG I, p. 80, from the very first monster entry:
"AIR SHARK: % Liar: too stupid to."
And so it went for all of the "not smart enough to lie" monsters.

Did they ever get it right? In my copy of 'Eldritch Wizardry', it's listed as '% in Laie'!

To be fair, when dealing with guys like Hargrave, it's hard to tell whether he truly read the typo straight, was making fun of the typo, or had decided to make something cool out of the typo. I'd always assumed the latter.

I'd always assumed the latter. Probably a bit of each, in that exact order. I'd guess that by the time the original trilogy was complete Mr. Hargrave thought he had turned the mistake into something cool. Come to think of it, the % Liar is rather novel. I assume the characters and monsters parleyed quite often in his games.

Are there any other systems that use "%Liar" besides Arduin? I believe Encounter Critical does (probably as a homage to Arduin), but I can't think of any others.
