When one of us is travelling to, say, LA or Wichita, we ought to be able to post on a message board or send an email to a list or post to facebook or whatever and say 'hey, I'm in town x for y days, I'm looking for a game, is anyone running'? And a lot of the time the answer ought to be yes.

It would be nice if there was a service where the DM could post the game, and then be notified if anyone replied. For it to work, though, folks would have to widely adopt the site, so that it became _the_ place for game recruiting, and none of the existing sites (MeetUp, etc.) have really caught fire like that.

A service like you describe would be great; it's something I've actually been thinking about lately. My wife and I are planning a two-week trip to Germany this fall, and it sure would be nice to just post a gaming query to a single site rather than 4 or 5...

I think one of the issues with the way games are posted on the forum boards is that ongoing games may get buried in the posts and there is no way to sort through them by geographic location and so on. If there were a sight that was organized along the lines of the genealogy boards it would be a lot more user friendly. The board should be able to be searched by both location and game type and when a response is made to a game ad the poster should get notified from the site - that way it is less likely to go unnoticed or get caught in a spam filter or somesuch.

A friend of mine runs a folk music meetup-like site for local folk musicians, and we were talking about how good it would be to port over to the gaming arena. I'll ping him for the site, since some quick googles didn't turn it up.

That's why I like Pen & Paper Games - they do have that searching capability and games don't get buried. You can also have "social groups" so that local communities can have central places for people to inquire about games.

www.folkjam.org/ is the site my friend maintains. If you ignore the music-specificity of the content, and just look at site features, I think it has a lot to offer.
