I was reading old threads on DF and encountered one from 2007 which talked about Carcosa being run using the Castles & Crusades game system rules.

Just curious whatever happened to this. Are there still some C&C Carcosa conversions out there somewhere?

IMO, Castles & Crusades is "close enough for government work" to pre-3rd edition D&D to be considered basically the same game as TSR-era A/D&D. This reminds me of a post I did on my Carcosa blog:
