I'm not a huge HM fan, since it's not really OD&D-like and is at the opposite end of the "rules spectrum" (read: it has too many of them). However, a few thoughts about HackMaster and thought that hiding them in "other editions" might be safe enough: 1. Is there a game on the market with a better name? I mean, HackMaster just jumps off of the page at you. 2. I know that HackMaster 4E was an AD&D 1E knock-off, but I don't know much at all about what 5E is going to be like. There is a new HM Basic coming out at the end of June, but I don't know much about the game itself. I was guessing that it was going to be similar to Aces & Eights but maybe it isn't. 3. Kind of a neat cover for HM Basic! Anyone see any previews or reliable info?

I am signed up for two Hackmaster Basic events at Origins. When I get back I'll write up my impressions. The first event is cool, you roll up character with the guys from Kenzer Co. and the next day you take the characters into an adventure. ;D

I'd be interested in hearing about how this goes, once it happens. I've been pondering pre-ordering the 5E Basic book, but I'm afraid it would just sit on my shelf along with my other mostly-unused HM materials.
And I'm afraid that 5E will radically change the mechanics, now that Kenzer & Co has severed its ties with WotC and AD&D.
Now, if this new edition turns out to have a similar feel to 1E AD&D then that would get me excited becasue it would be a shorter version of a long-winded RPG.
Anyway, after Origins please give us some details. :-)

Absolutely ;D I'll write up a report of how the game played and scan my character and email it to you if you would like to see a finished character. As for Hackmaster, there are tons of ideas that can be used in any version of D&D. The massive number of monsters alone are easily ported over to OD&D. I'm using a few in my upcoming Castle Hawkhaven campaign including a Map Grabber and Babbling Instigator: D On the second level, there is mysterious character known as the "Overlord" and he uses Orgs as bodyguards.
