... and it's wonderful. Clearly Jason has taken a lot of time and effort to put together these booklets and the box definitely has that Original type feel. I haven't had the time to really read through it (to see if there are any differences between one version and another) but in quick look-over it passes the "cool" test.

The text in the booklets should be identical to the text in the current versions for sale on Lulu. There is less art in the Old School versions (which is what the boxed set contains, content-wise), so as to keep the page count down to staple-bind levels. Oh, and the old school editions for sale on Lulu won't fit properly in the boxes. I tried. Sadly, I can't get 8.5 x 5.5 booklets made on Lulu--they have to be 8.375 x 5.67 or something crazy like that. Anyway, I'm glad you like it, Fin! What'd you think of the dice? Those were my favorite part [EDIT]Oh, should mention I have 7 more boxed up for shipping which I hope to send out either tomorrow or Saturday. We'll then be about halfway done with total pre-orders, though I'm still waiting for a few payments or withdrawals to come through. Apologies to those still waiting; this week has been bad for post, as my house was broken into, completely ransacked, and robbed on Monday. So I've spent much of this week dealing with police and home security system people.

My guess is that WOTC sent some thieves in to get a look at your game to see if it will eat up the 4E marketplace. I just can't believe that the break-in and the completion of the S&S boxed set in the same week can be a coincidence. Hope things go well.

Thanks. I'll have more peace of mind once the security system is in. WotC was my first thought as a culprit, too, but they left my OD&D sets untouched, so...

That's almost exactly what I was going to say! I was a bit leery of the length of the boxes, back when they were being discussed, but now I can see a good reason for it. Even if you have additional books filling up the box, there's still room for the dice! The dice look pretty cool, too. I haven't tried them yet (I'm at work) but I will on my lunch break. But I'm especially happy I have it now, so I can bring it along to Kesher's Otherness game on Sunday and show it off.

Got mine yesterday.
Awesome.
Love those dice, as did my daughter and son.
She asked me how to use the dice. I said that you rolled them and tried to get the highest number. Now, she's 5, and she says, "Oh, then I get a 12."
I may have to do the rolling in this family.

LOL...nice.
Well, I have only two left to send out--though I still need to send a reminder e-mail to the few people I haven't heard from--and once I get that squared away, I may have 3 or 4 left to sell. I'll keep you all posted.

Got mine in the mail too...ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! And #6 or 30, I'm so excited! You did a fantastic job Jason...just fantastic. Looks like I'm turning into a retro-clone collector and your Boxed Set is like the flagship product!

Finally! Mine arrived yesterday! Jason... this is absolutely beautiful! You get mucho cool points for doing something (and quite successfully, too) that other game creators, especially of the retro-clones, should have done a long time ago. Love the dice, too. Unfortunately, one of the staples on Swordsmen & Spellslingers crimped up on itself during stapling, but no worries, I can easily fix it. But then again, the collector part of my brain says to leave it the heck alone. ;D I can't wait to read this! (or should I put it away and order some 'reader' copies? -lol-) Oh, and have an Exalt, by the gods!

Yeah, alas I had that problem with more than a few of the staples. My booklet stapler did NOT like the grain of the cover stock. I am considering investing in a "long staper," as the one of those we have at work seems to work better than my booklet stapler at home.
They are solid inside, however--I double-checked every one, to the point of hand-pressing more than a few.

I've had a similar problem with staples. I've found (on my stapler anyway) it's more a matter of alignment. If you can figure out which way the thing is mis-aligned and then, well, hit it, you can sometimes knock it back into working order.
But like I say, that's just mine; yours might have a different difficulty.
And a few of my staples are slightly mangled also, but the book holds together. Good job on that.

But I'm especially happy I have it now, so I can bring it along to Kesher's Otherness game on Sunday and show it off. As indeed he did, and Jason, it's awesome! A truly beautiful piece of work. It's more than obvious that this was a labor of love. And if anyone reading this thread hasn't done so already, go read the Grognardia post.
