...I'm talking about the new Star Trek movie, of course! Go here and here. It looks like you can have your cake and eat it, too!

I've gotta say, neither of these stories surprises me in the least.
The closest I got to surprise, actually, was that I didn't feel the nerd rage like the commenters in the second story. (There was a time when I would have.)

I am so excited about this movie. I've been trying to tell myself not to get pumped up, and it worked until recently. The closer this gets, the more excited I get.
I think the key was when I mentally compared the Star Trek movie to the Battlestar Galactica franchise. It's going to be the same thing but somehow different. With that in mind, I'm hoping not to compare the two Treks as much as rediscover the new Trek.
Does that make sense?

Yes, it does.
But I still reserve the right to be curmudgeonly and nit-picky about the petty details; it's what herself will expect of me.

That goes without saying, Coffee, that we old crusty Trekkies (note I didn't say "Trekkers") always reserve the right to be critical of anything not wholly TOS in origin. :-)

Guys, I have to admit: I was raised on Star Trek; it's in my blood. Heck, my dad reminds me so much of Leonard Nimoy sometimes it freaks me out. But I actually LIKE the fact that much of the Trekverse was created on the fly, to fit story needs and audience preferences, and only retrofitted to make "sense" in hindsight. Kinda like an oldskool campaign... And I cannot wait to see this movie this weekend!
