www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/calithenas-campaign-compendium/6592822The FOURTH new product for the final blitz, this one too will be going away sometime on April 1. I cobbled together a bunch of what I thought were my cooler and more interesting campaign notes, magic notes, etc. for general readership. This is not finished stuff like I would put in Fight On!, but I think it might make very intriguing reading for like minded GMs. A lot of the thoughts that went into my 'setting up your sandbox' article in FO! 1 are explored here in theory or example at greater length. Also there are some spell lists and funky tables. 54 pages of material this fast is not easy to cobble together! Buy it now and celebrate my creativity! And help us win this contest! Only available for two days! www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/calithenas-campaign-compendium/6592822

Also placed my order for CCC just now. How can I pass that up? Looking forward to adding it to my growing POD collection.

You guys are too kind! Thank you! (I hope you get some things of use/interest out of it.) Unfortunately, I'm way out of cash, especially with the buying for the contest. Is there any hope you would consider leaving them up for sale past April 1? I know you'd have at least one sale of the campaign book and perhaps that adventure into your dark psyche. *g* (Hey, FFV amused the holy hell outta me... I have a strange sense of humor)

Cal, I just ordered my copy. I've been hoping you'd write more about the sandbox, and I'm happy to see some text in there from an earlier manuscript. It's well worth sharing, and I'm excited to read it. You know, I'd actually love to see this become a publishing genre: DM/Judge/Referee Campaign Notes. This mindset we have about play around here, whatever you want to call it, seems perfectly suited for it---everyone has a unique campaign, especially when you include (and how couldn't you?) houserules, interpretations, playing set-ups (how and when the campaign is run), etc. Actually, as I write this, I realize it already is a genre, started by that Man-Ahead-of-His-Time, Dave Arneson. So, not only are you in good company, you're perhaps helping to initiate a tradition.

Thanks again, all of you!
Kesher, I love reading that stuff, and have always been a little sad that internet message boards don't contain more of it. If publication is the way to make it happen, then so be it!
To be honest, Hargrave's notes about his own campaign and approach were some of the things that made Arduin so valuable to me. Just "this is how I do things" type stuff. Not that you even necessarily had to agree, just getting your own idea mill working is the key.
A&E and Dragon also had articles like that in the early going, but boy it's been a hard thing to find. Part of the problem is that we're trained to generalize and come up with principles, whereas at the state of knowledge we're at examples are still IMO more important. And the category of 'actual play' also sometimes fails to pick this up because there we're concerned with what happens at the table.

Got this in the mail on Saturday. I've only skimmed it, but it's a fun read, although I doubt that I'll actually use any of the material in it. Nonetheless, it's always enjoyable to read the ideas of a very creative DM! Money well spent, IMO.

Surely you'll use the alternate coin types!
Also possibly the Well of Talasshar.
Glad you like it!

CCC is one of my favorite PODs yet! Who cares if there is little I will be using. It will serve my purposes by providing food for thought, and plain old enjoyable reading.
Actually, the Character Destiny Ranks fit right into my own campaign with a little tinkering. I also really like the magic schools by color idea.
I'd like to see more campaign compendiums from other GMs in the future. I'm glad you took the time to offer this, Calithena.

Hey Cal, if I ever actually get to meet you, face-to-face, you're going to have to sign this! I loved the pseudo-Vancian magic idea; I'm quite seriously considering instituting it in Otherness. A few years ago, when I was still teaching English and running an after-school gaming group for students, I did something similar. The system was a mash-up of the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks with a chunk of house rules; I used the stand-alone spell bookfrom Steve Jackson's Sorcery! series for the spells. I photocopied the spell descriptions, and any spell-using character randomly picked two to start with. Those spells were, as far as the players knew, all that existed in the world.
