To try to boost sales for the contest we are offering a unique product. www.lulu.com/content/hardcover-book/fight-on-compendium/6586864This is all four issues of FO bound together in a hardback in exactly the order and format they were originally published in. All covers except the front cover of 1 and the back cover of 4 have been made B&W and put on the interior. We have deliberately made the price higher than the price of ordering the four issues separately, so people who already bought them seperately don't feel robbed. In fact, it's a better deal to buy all four paperback issues separately, and if you're new to the magazine we'd prefer you'd do that since it gets us four sales for the contest instead of one, but some people will want this volume in addition to their regular issues or prefer the hardbound format for some reason. I am slightly worried that the margins will be very tight. All information appears to be on all pages from review of the PDF but it's hard to say for sure what will get eaten by the margins, esp. in issue 3. Still it will all be there, you may just need to make a Peer Into Corners roll. We are pulling out all stops to try to win this contest! This and all other special edition products will be pulled from the FO! page on April 1, and then this temporary delay from publishing issue 5 will be over. www.lulu.com/content/hardcover-book/fight-on-compendium/6586864

NOTE - if you are a games/hobby retailer who wants to buy 2 or more copies of this to put in your store, I will lower the price to $30 for you and you may charge whatever you think the market will bear. Contact me by email at calithena at gmail dot com if this seems like something you'd want to make happen. If you are reading this and you know a hobby retailer who might like to make this happen please let them know ASAP, as these will be gone by April 1.

Wow! You owe me for buying one! Shipping to Europe is almost as much as the price of the item.

I greatly appreciate both of your purchases and hope the volume is satisfactory upon arrival!
I'm pretty sure cost plus postage is cheaper with all four paper books shipped together, but you two are (so far) the Sole Possessors of this luxurious (I hope) volume.
Seriously, guys, that's plenty of cash to spend helping out. We greatly appreciate it!

As a collector it'd be cool to know how many copies have been sold, when you finish selling it on April, 1st.

We have deliberately made the price higher than the price of ordering the four issues separately, so people who already bought them seperately don't feel robbed. Actually, having bought all four issues individually, I really wish the price were lower so that I could justify picking up the hardcover compilation as well. I think it would be a wonderful resource, but to have to pay more than I did the first time around for the same information is puts me in a tough spot.

As cool as it would be to have a hardcover ... I just bought 2-4 a couple weeks ago and my wife would never let me re-buy the same thing again so quickly. It's a neat marketing concept, however, and I hope it helps Fight On! win the contest!

I know. I would love to sell it for less but I'm really highly motivated not to screw over people who have been buying faithfully all along. This contest will be over in a couple of days and then we'll be back to being a fanzine - we're in this for the long term, to support classic fantasy roleplaying - and I don't want people to run around complaining about our unfair business practices, etc..
Plus of course we benefit more in the contest when people buy the four print issues than when they buy the compendium, so that's an internal reason to price it the way we are.
Still, it would be a fun thing to have....and only available for two more days...

I would love to sell it for less but I'm really highly motivated not to screw over people who have been buying faithfully all along. I appreciate the sentiment. I really do. Yet, by pricing this item so high that faithful "subscribers" are likely to struggle with being able to justify the purchase while newcomers have can afford it more easily, with all due respect, I think you've achieved the exact opposite effect.

Yeah! Maybe I end up owning an even rarer collector's item than I thought. I can hardly imagine WHY there should be even one other idiot who buys it, when he can have the separate issues even cheaper.

If I hadn't bought all four issues of Fight On! shortly after their releases, I would snap up this hardcover compilation without hesitation. It would be wonderful to have the first year of Fight On! in a single, more durable volume.

I agree: as much as I'd like to support FO!, buy the compendium, and support your efforts, the price point is in my opinion way too high. Good luck with the Lulu contest, though!

Hmm, seems I came up to surface just a couple of days too late. The hardback is no longer available?

David, surely you know better by now *g*. Would you believe I checked, just in case. That thought had crossed my mind more than once before placing an order with lulu but after re-reading the competition rules and that it was the number of print copies sold rather than value which was the apparent factor, I went for the paperbacks. Probably a bad move, but hey...

Appreciated though. The response to the contest was huge.
There are 19 copies of the FO! compendium in existence. That's all there will be for quite a while, maybe ever. Sorry to those who missed the supersale!
When someone actually gets it please post to tell me how it looks though - I'm curious.

Mine should be here tomorrow, because it was shipped Friday. Only 19 huh? Very cool. If I understand correctly, because it was an author contest, it was based on total sales of every book by that author for March. Just how many books sold? Over a thousand?

I love mine. The binding is rather nice. Now I don't have to worry as much about paging through the magazines. ;-)

Argh!! I hate it! As hardcovers are printed in the US it always takes months (at least that's how it seems to me) before they hit the continent. There's going to be a huge party the day the hardcover versions of the Compendium and Swords & Wizardry arrive here. Everyone's invited!

My large Lulu order arrived, including FO#3 and #4, as well as cali's campaign notes and short story (in addition to a passel of S&W and OSRIC stuff). With Jerry's and Dave's passings, though, I'm not really in the mood to dig through it tonight.

A d**n shame. I found about this way too late and I think a compilation edition to be a good idea. As it stands, I have a *real* problem with Lulu due to their shipping practices when sending stuff outside the States and I have not bought an issue of Fight On! yet. I'm also not too keen on PDFs when there is a print alternative.
A compilation edition, perhaps a softcover one, might be nice if released on a yearly basis. By being softcover, the price point could remain comparable or even less expensive than the single issues. The single issues could be 'phased out' which should make some people who bought those happy since they now have a collectible. A softcover version as opposed to a hardcover compilation to retain the uber limited print run for those who shelled out for the hardcovers.
It's just an idea, and someone in my position (as in outside the US) may be more likely to pick up the compilations and suffer the insane shipping costs and the additional brokerage charges. I know I would have most likely bought the hardcover compilation if I had known. Best of luck in future issues of what sounds like a great gaming journal.
