I don't believe this, but: lulublog.com/2009/03/16/author-sales-contest-update-top-10/With 8 days to go we are in second place in the lulu author contest. Being featured in lulu promotional materials as a contest winner would be HUGE for promoting Fight On! and old school gaming generally. Lulu itself is going to interview, promote, advertise, etc. the winners on its site and elsewhere. This is a huge opportunity. Anyone with a birthday coming up soon? Need doubles in mint condition to stow away in bags? Any other ideas? Even if we don't win anything just being in this position feels tremendous. We have had awesome sales this month and hopefully it will continue. I think I'm going to buy some copies for friends myself... Thanks to our writers and artists and all of you who buy and read the magazine for helping make this happen. Remember, only print sales count. Thanks!

I hate to do this again so soon, but if any of you in the Blogger Brigades want to help boost our results in this contest, we wouldn't mind a mention. Calling all bloggers!

No, it's just this contest. Most of the other books in the top 10 have religious content, which is somewhat amusing in light of history (though I hasten to add that I personally don't see any real conflict between gaming and religion).
What this tells us is that the rankings in the monthly lulu top 100 are mostly driven by sales e.g. on Amazon rather than off the lulu site itself. I suspect this is also why they're running the contest, they want to draw attention both to authors who buy and sell principally on lulu and to increase visibility for buying and selling directly from their site, which probably gives them a bigger margin (and more control, surely).

I assume older issues count, as well. I filled out my collection back to FO#1

I needed to add #4 to my ever growing backlog of things-I-need-to-read-yesterday, so #4 is on the way. I hope you win, calithena!

I've made a post to Grognardia. With luck, that'll generate a few more sales and push FO! over the top.

Cal, don't buy them yourself - those don't count. Have your sister or your next door neighbor buy any that you're paying for yourself.

Thanks fellas.
That's an interesting thought, myth - I haven't bought any myself yet, other than my regular proof copy. Hmmm....not sure how I feel about that...

I've blogged about it, hopefully it will get a couple of the 137 of us to buy a copy or two.

Thank you!
I know it's an in-joke, but there are more than 137 of us, even if you just count folks on the internet.

I would love to help bump you up one sale, but I cannot do so at this time (although I will buy #4 later on). You have my cheers and good wishes though!

New Poster here. Just a quick note to say I bought 1-3 a few weeks ago and ordered 4 late last week. Great Magazine and I hope to see it have a long life. Big fan of the Wilderlands and Judges Guild so #3 has been my favorite issue so far. Looking forward to reading 4.
Good luck.

If anyone wants to buy some Fight On!s for me, I'll pack you back! (no bank = no internet purchasing...and I'd love to get my grubby mitts on them!)

Ooh! Let's get this done for Ragnorakk. I'd do it myself except that my purchases don't count towards the contest. Any takers?

I personally will stand security for ragnorakk if someone will buy him the whole run (or whichever issues you two work out between you) of FO! in print. If he doesn't pay you back, I will get you the money. Word is bond!
