OD&D was written as we know with the whole swords and sorcery thing in mind, but instead of castles, I'm thinking art deco structures, gadgets and vehicles. Coupled with that an interesting relationship between humans and a demonic kind. It probably would be difficult for OD&D to support that, but is there a set of rules from the old school that would?
Thanks

I think OD&D could work just fine, but rayguns and demons makes me think of Arduin first and foremost.

The "old school" approach, I think, would be to buy copies of OD&D, the Arduin Grimoires, and Gamma World, and combine without particular regard for authorial intent, careful balance or anything beyond what you want to see in play. (Depending on tone, you could probably also slot Encounter Critical into that list.) The trappings and specifics may be things you wind up inventing, but the fact that there wasn't a game for it never stopped people from making up what worked for them back in the day. No reason it should stop you today.

And it should go without saying, but let us know how that works out for you. We're always interested in such things.

You could also examine Dan Proctor's Labyrinth Lords and Mutant Future, both of which are built on the same basic game design. LL was based on B/X D&D and not OD&D, but it's a simple enough conversion and most of the stuff should just port right over.
If you look for Gamma World, I find that 1E is really good and 4E seemes to be designed with D&D in mind. 4E has a "mental strenth" stat that works great in OD&D.

Yea, I'm reading the Alternity GW campaign book now, it occurred to me that the divisional line would be split at the Pure Human and Mutants. The Mutant outline actually being the demonic world. Keeps things simple to figure. I'm also reading the online OD&D, i think the problem is that my brain is so brainwashed into thinking that D&D without supplements is medieval based, it's tough to get away from that...d**n marketing...

In retrospect, I'm thinking a world where there are no explosive materials, beyond those need for casting, which by themselves would not do anything. In an effort to eliminate a 'firearm' weapon, everything that required power to operate, destroy, change form ect...would be a natural substance like cave luminescence for lights or an acid based excretion for 'melting' natural rock to a cement like material for building. Everything needed would come from the home planet (it's an alien one) or the demonic worlds tied to the planet. The humans would be settlers who have already established themselves. And there would be a mix of demonic forms who by exile or desire, would live along side the humans. In addition, the demonic nobility (and others) would essentially come to the human world for many different reasons such as trade, War or maybe just to slum. With all this in mind OD&D would probably work, but alot would have to be gleaned from other sources. Any thoughts?
