We are proud to present the OLD SCHOOL EDITION of Spellcraft & Swordplay! This edition has all errata from the first and second printings incorporated, and best of all, comes in three, old-school, 6x9 little brown pamphlets! Book One: Swordsmen and Spellslingers is a player's guide containing everything you need to create a character and be up and running in S&S. Book Two: Combat and Conflict presents all the rules you need to play the game, complete and updated with all errata. Give your game a REAL old school shot in the arm with the OLD SCHOOL EDITION! Fight on! www.lulu.com/elflairgames/I intend to have book three: Monsters and Magic up sometime this week. I'll post here when it goes live.

Hey Jason -
How do attributes work in your game?

I already have an earlier version of Spellcraft & Swordplay. I know you've corrected typos and such and this set of books is in Old School pamphlet format (which looks really cool, by the way) but I was curious if there have been any additional changes to the rules and/or game mechanic since the earlier version?
(I may buy it anyway -- those books look neat!) :-)

Ability Scores work much as they did in OD&D or B/X, but there is also an ability check system for resolving general issues not covered by the rules. Basically, you roll 2d6, add ability bonus (a flat chart for all abilities), +1 for every 3 character levels you have, and try to hit 11. The new "edition" incorporates all errata. The errata for the first printing is available from the storefront as a free PDF, and all errata (first and second) are available for free at my forums: elflairgames.proboards107.com/I haven't done a PDF for the second printing yet, as it's not really warranted. There are very few errata and unlike the first printing no tables needed to be redone. Volume 3 is almost done, though because of the massive monster stats table it's going to be trickier to format for lulu, so bear with me. Still hoping to get it up this week. [EDIT]Oh, also, some of you will be pleased to note that the Elmore art is gone from this edition

These look great, Jason! Please be sure to post when Volume 3 is ready, I'll probably order all three at once just to see what you've done here.

Book Three: Monsters and Magic is now available: www.lulu.com/content/5686679The price point to buy all three in pamphlet form is higher than the paperback, but cheaper than the hardcover. I kept the price as low as I could, but am still constrained by Lulu's production costs.

I am considering offering a limited number of boxes for sale separately. This would have to be mail order directly through me. I have to run the numbers exactly, but it would likely be about $3.00 plus shipping for the box.
Boxes would be of the "tuck box" style, not with removable lids (try as I might I couldn't find 6.5 x 9 removable lid boxes), made of corrugated cardboard (sturdy stuff), white on the outside, brown inside. They would, of course, have S&S cover art on the lid.

I may have to pick up a copy. I'm a sucker for the little book format and getting rid of the Elmore art is another good idea.

Heh. As much of a fan of Elmore's as I am, I must admit in this case, the game does look better with the new-old art instead of his works.

I have a price quote in hand from GoB regarding boxed sets. I need to do a bit more research and discuss a few things with Tim, but it's possible (though by no means a promise) that I might be able to swing a very limited test run of a full boxed set next month.
By very limited I mean like 20 copies, just to see if there's interest enough to move forward with it.
The cost of the boxed set, if I do this, would likely (but again, more numbers need be crunched) be somewhere between $20 and $25.

Jason,
Set me aside one of those boxes, if it comes to pass; you've got a sale right here.

As would I. Especially for that price. Just can't find a complete game anywhere for less than $40 anymore.

Well, that bodes quite well. I'm still looking into things; overhead, costs of setting up my own online store to sell the things, etc.
