In my last few games the players have been in in pursuit of a powerful ghoul character called the Corpse King. Although it's not really that important a sub-plot to the main story it has given me reason to give thought to the underworld of Carcosa. With Deep Ones, Space aliens ( and heritics,) Slimes and (at least in my games) Ghouls all having a major pressence beneath Carcosa it seems to be a pretty lively place. I have been debating working on a Mega dungeon loosly based on H.P. Lovecraft's underworld described i the Mound, and a few of his other stories.
The players are abducted and find themselves in an underground alien base, called K'n-yan. Durring their incarceration and experimentation the player learn that K'n-yan is a base under siege. Slowly but steadily the city has been infiltrated by a growing heretic presence, and evidence of Old One Worship has lead to an alien witch hunt. As expected this eventually leads to an oppritunity to escape, during a particularly violent conflict.
The players are then must brave the dangers of the underworld to escape to the surface. Their Quest bringing them through the ruins of a great serpant-man city of Yoth, now home to hundreds of ghouls, who have been riled up by the Alien civil war, and the strange and utterly other dark caverns of N'kai, home of the Deep Ones who have been providing aid for the Heretics, before finaly finding a path to the surface.
It's just a rough sketch in my head right now, but I think I'm going to try to get the game ready to run after we finish out current Metamorphosis arch. Any ideas / suggestions would be appreciated.
