Apparently folks are getting their TotV books through the kickstart, or pre-order, or something like that. At least, I've seen a little chatter about this. From what I hear, Tales of the Valiant is Kobold Press' answer to the "5E without the OGL" problem.
I'm not interested in buying the thing, but I am curious about what sorts of rules changes they made. (Mostly because I will be launching a 5E campaign for my home game and am thinking about house rules that I might want to try.)
Anyone know about TotV? Care to share what makes it different from 5E?

I saw it in our (fairly) local gaming store when I went up to play league night Wednesday. I had never heard of it, and all I could think of with the name was the old cartoon "Prince Valiant", so I put it down immediately. I might have to go back and skim it.

I haven't seen the final book, but I had a quick look at their playtest documents, known back then as "Black Flag". They still have the documents on their website: koboldpress.com/category/black-flag/
Personally, I didn't see a lot of differences besides some names which clearly belong to the "realm of D&D". But I wasn't really interested in the project either. We've pretty much moved away from 5E at the moment, and I'm not sure if we're ever going back.

Mike Shea has talked quite a bit about it over the past several months- usually a section in his weekly podcasts/videos where he's comparing it, Level Up Advanced 5e, and 2014 5E to proposed/known changes in 2024 5E. (for example- he's done comparisons of all stat blocks for the same monster)
What I can recall/things that stuck out to me (I usually only half listen during the 5E related segments of his show, unless it's something of particular interest)
Tougher/Better monster design/rewrites
A complete revamp of/replacement for Inspiration (which Mike has swiped for his 5e games)
Problem spells addressed
I know there is a fair amount more than that to TotV, but that is all that has stuck with my age addled brain.

Still thumbing through the books. I note that the monster book doesn't give monster stats, but does supply stat mods. (So, one could easily reverse engineer stats if it matters to you.)
Easy to read, and I think part of that is a decent black font on white background. Not sure why so many companies want to print unusual colors, unusual fonts, and non-white background, but it's really an obvious difference when one gets to see something on white paper again.
