So this news has hit this morning. "Hasbro Seeks to Sell IP “DND” and Has Had Preliminary Contact with Tencent" Some commentators have been saying it is a translation error, that Tencent is just looking to buy digital rights. Others are saying Hasbro is in deep financial trouble and selling D&D to Tencent for a billion will save the company, and Tencent would only be interested in all the IP rights. Hasbro selling D&DI think D&D is just a line item on a spreadsheet to the business people in charge, and they don't care about the game.

All the books are printed there, and much of corporate America is now owned by China.
I'm a firm Capitalist, bu I gave up on corporate nerdery (D&D, Star Wars,Marvel, etc) years ago. I suggest everyone else do the same, it's good for the soul.

I suggest everyone else do the same, it's good for the soul. Me too. I heard a funny quip on some podcast (forget which one) that said America has become an LLC, a shell company for the world, and Americans have become a tax source to fund it. Oh, not that funny, depressingly accurate. Ok, off that topic! I honestly don't know if anyone could run D&D worse than Hasbro has lately. It doesn't matter anyways, I have all my books from the 70's & 80's, and more great content from OSR creators than I could use up in a lifetime. So I'm good. But sad for future generations. This is probably just a rumor, or a misunderstood story anyways, though the least surprising thing would be for D&D to get sold to some faceless conglomerate.

This would explain why Hasbro gutted Wizards of the Coast during the last round of layoffs.
They don’t NEED them anymore if they’re getting sold.

I try not to prejudge anything, but I’m struggling with my feelings about this in light of what happened to Tunnels & Trolls.

Honestly I don't think they ever were. News sourcing these days even from reputable providers honestly seems the feeblest it's ever been. If it's found on a website, a journalist will "report" on it in blog post and nobody else in the company will fact check it.
