Decades ago, when I shopped at the Judges Guild physical store in Decatur, IL, they handed out pens with "Wand of Fantasy Gaming - +5 vs Boring Campaigns" on them. I thought it was cool enough that years later I made custom pencils for my group that said "+1 pencil of Orc busting" or something like that. Well, today on my FB page some D&D pencil ads popped up and I thought I would share the links. They look fun to me. Some for board games, some specifically for D&D role playing. www.griffonco.com/collections/pencil?fbclid=IwAR1VvsJEwiInt3psOBL38zIorVd2GCtI4UKTYGrfvJeiEOilPMyf8AYITT8Six pencils for $5 seems a little steep, but on the other hand they are fun and if I had some custom-made they would probably be as much or more.

Heheh. That’s fun. 🙂 I posted elsewhere wondering what others may recommend as their fave ‘nerd pencils/pens’ imagining I’d be inundated by responses…. I got zero. Lol!

But what if you play GURPS?

Heheh. That’s fun. 🙂 I posted elsewhere wondering what others may recommend as their fave ‘nerd pencils/pens’ imagining I’d be inundated by responses…. I got zero. Lol! I'm sorry I missed it! I've passed these out to players before, the Paper Mate Mirado "Black Warrior" Pencil: www.papermate.com/pencils/paper-mate-mirado-black-warrior-woodcase-pencils-hb-2-lead/SAP_2254.htmlSomewhere I've got an "Ennies" pencil from Gencon. But honestly, I mostly use Bic Mechanical Pencils. They're great and always sharp. I've tried the PILOT FriXion eraseable pens. I think they could work very well for character sheets. They definitely give more visual contrast on paper then does graphite. The downside of the FriXion is that the writing can vanish if it gets hot, so . . . no games in the sauna or on the hot beach. I actually was concerned about how long the writing would last even at normal room temperature storage.

I used to be obsessed with mechanical pencils, but that wore off. I like General, one of the few wooden pencils still made in the USA. I liked Ticonderogas when I was a kid, but the quality isn't there anymore.

I like Bic Mechanical Pencils. .07 mm is just right, the finer leads break too easily. For pens the Hi-Tec C is outstanding, I like the .05 mm
If you want serious pencils though go for the Palomino Blackwing Matte pencils. They are quite simply the best wooden pencils made.
Don't buy on Amazon, they have enough money. Support jetpens.com a small scrappy online store that sells the best stationary supplies.

My group uses Bic Mechanical pencils currently. I was just thinking about making an order of the others to make the table more fun.

I have been using a Stadtler Mars Technico pencil for years. Like the same pencil for 30 years and have only had to replace the lead three times in that period. I first started using them in high school for my drafting class and have never gone back. The lead is strong and the sharpeners you can buy for them is great. Just use a softer lead in them as I find the hard lead is too light for D&D.
I never liked the Bic Mechanical pencils. I always found that the lead broke too easily in them. But that could just be on me and pressing to hard.
If I didn't have the Stadtler, then I probably would be using a wooden pencil.

This Warduke pencil sharpener is the sharpener I didn't know I needed until now.

For the longest time I'd bring a box of Ticonderoga #2 pencils to the table, along with character sheets and dice, for players who needed them.
Then, after some 20 years of faithful service, my electric pencil sharpener died, and I discovered that sharpening pencils by hand was a pain at my age.
So now I bring a box of cheapo Bic mechanicals, instead. Not as good, not as classy, but much easier.

lol nice. I tried a couple different brands of razor blade sharpeners, and gave up and bought a grinder style (whatever it's called) that works much better.

I have landed on mechanical pencils using 0.9mm or size "1" lead simply because they don't break as easily. peace and Love to all stationery and office supplies
