If you're using the facsimile edition of CT I highly recommend the Tales to Astound! blog. Fair warning: it may lead to a misjump into the past... And Far Future Enterprises has digital versions (used to be CD's, now maybe thumb drives?) of all the Traveller materials, which are well worth the $35 ea.

CK!’s blog is well worth reading. I have the little white book facsimile edtion as well, since I can mistreat it and still replace it if need be, but you can also get a POD of The Traveller Book from DriveThru. Sometimes I like the larger format for easier reading; sometimes I like the little books for portability. It depends.

Something often overlooked is that there are 2 editions of classic traveller. The facsimile edition is a reprint plus errata of the 1981 2nd edition.

Also, the tales to astound blog is indeed fantastic.

For Traveller Day I finally caved and ordered a physical copy of the facsimile edition. Though my old LBBs died a death a long time ago I have just about everything in PDF from the CD-ROMs, and I printed the 1977 booklets on the office printer several years ago.

Indeed, and I mostly prefer the wide-open version in '77 vs. '81 (primarily due to the Jump Routes table and accompanying text, which was cut from the '81 version). But I prefer the whole-dice weapons damage from '81.

I have the pdfs so I usually print out a trade routes chart from 1977. I actually have my 1977 LBBs, too, but they are a bit fragile…

Something I'm learning, much to my chagrin as I try to relearn CT, is that the Starter set rules also has many differences from 1977/1981. For example, it added cover/concealment, darkness combat, 0g effects on combat - I learned that last night after thumbing thru 77/81/facsimile trying to find the cover rules... Fun stuff!

Frank Filz did this, if you've a mind to make sure you're not missing any differences in the variations of CT.

Haha, yes this is true. Starter traveller, the traveller book, deluxe traveller…. Little differences in all of them

I have the pdfs so I usually print out a trade routes chart from 1977. Same. I tried using this for the first time recently and found the results not very satisfying — I think I would've preferred just winging it and drawing my own. Anybody have a good experience with the trade routes table?

And he's a good guy, to boot!
