MI'KIMU AND BALESH:
KARUNAZ SAYS: "Vrimeshtu seeks mostly strong warriors and perhaps some users of magic or priestly arts. If any among your tribe are so gifted and if you have any additional stout ones for packing goods, four perhaps, that would be good.
Tell me where you lodge and I will come tomorrow and escort you two and any select others you think fit to attend the business and I will escort you the villa of my Lord. You will be recieved cordially and fed while we discuss these important matters, and hear his quest and his terms.
May I say, with all humility, it would be wise to visit a clothier and purchase suitable clothes for the occasion. It is custom and well mannered and I can assure you that you will be more than compensated for your expenditures when the matter is done. I mean no insult, I implore pardon for my boldness, I seek to help."
(Feel free to add any dialogue or questions if you wish, for now I assume you will be leaving to find Fi'ru.).
DRISH'S H'MELU PENS:
Following the woman's directions you come to a section of the Quarters where animals are kept and sold. Some you recognize from home, others you do not.
You see a long building with enclosed yards and smell the reek of H'melu sweat and hear them grunting and snorting before you see them. Six legged furry creatures, like H'ma but without the copious wool. Their meat is highly favored and the milk of their sows is the source of Chu'metl, a spiced buttermilk broth as beloved in Nuroab as anywhere.
There are ten pens and immediately at one you see Fi'ru. He does not see you-- he is busy using a wooden shovel to remove the dung matted hay upon which the H'melu sleep. Sweat drips from him and standing over him speaking in a scolding voice is a stern looking, thick bellied man with a pinched, sullen looking visage. He seems unkind at your very first take.
DRISH: "How can it take you all morning to clean ten pens, Fi'ru? You get a bed here, coppers and every now and then some roasted H'melu bits and even Chumetl, but I get the work pace of a Kaika bird. I fear I will never make a worker of you and my patience is thin, thin you hear?"
WHAT DO YOU DO?

N'Rasa did not have to borrow any kaitars from Mohammad, at the discount rate they were being offered here.
She bowed to Master Vri. "You honor me, telling me of your family and your religion. I will consider your encouragement."
She tried on the leather armor, finding the leather hauberk fit snug on her chest, and her hose hung loose from the girdle at her waist. But if she found herself in dangerous work here in the city, she would rather have its protection than none at all.

Mahammad pays for the items and if N'rassa does not need the funds then he will not offer it. He tries on the armor and steps asside to try the mace out He says, " nice work on the weapon and the armor. IF you would like I can bless this shop for future excellent work?

Mi'kímu replies to Karunaz with the location of their current lodgings, but demures at making a decision about visiting his patron — he must speak to his comrades, and at least some of them must decide to purchase respectable raiment for the occasion. Mi'kímu proposes a brief second meeting the following afternoon to settle the question. "Respectfully, we hope you understand our situation — we have only just arrived in your great City, and struggle with language and custom. We thank you for this opportunity, which we will discuss with all seriousness before we meet again."
Meanwhile, outside the animal pens, Mi'kímu wonders if this might be an inopportune time to openly summon Fi'ru for a discussion of his perilous future prospects. He'll dawdle in the street with Balesh to discuss the offer Karunaz has made, while waiting for Fi'ru to perhaps see them. When that conversation is done, they'll leave. Perhaps Fi'ru will recognize them in the meantime and find a moment to speak to them. If not, Mi'kímu might try again the following day.
[OOC — do we have a chaperone with us? They might frown on this in some way; Mi'kímu is unsure.]

The game rules state that at 3rd level this restriction is lifted and you may travel the land and cities of Tsolyanu without any need of escort (I guess because you have proven yourself?) At 6th level you can become a citizen!

Ah, I see — still, the impropriety of "poaching" someone in a foreign quarter feels dangerous to Mi'kímu, if only because he doesn't want to make enemies. He'll be cautious, but hopes to make contact with Fi'ru and include him in our tribe.

N'Rasa's heart skipped a beat when Mohammad said he could bless the shop. He can do that...?
She wanted to stay and watch, if Master Vri accepted this offer.

GM Error, I am sincerely sorry. I listed an erroneous price at the armory. A suit of Leather Armor is actually 30 Kaitars by EPT rules, but 31 in Vri's shop.
I listed it as 9 K. I realize this may change your previous choice for which I am sorry and will try not to repeat.
Again, if you wish to bargain with Vri, I will make a roll upon the reaction table!
I would like to note that now that two of your party members have located Vri's armory, the rest of the party may opt to visit the shop and roleplay there or simply summarize your visit by equipping and paying the gold.
Unless one can bargain him down, Vri's prices for Foreigners are one gold Kaitar more than the listed price in the EPT rules. ******************************************************** N'RASA AND MOHAMMAD(Thinking it likely that Vri, a Change devotee and loyalist of Sarku would refuse and perhaps even be offended by Mohammad's offer of blessing after pointing out his shrine, I made a roll on the reaction table and gave the priest +10%. The result was a 76, enthusiastic response.MASTER VRI: "I am honored, Priest. I can permit no elaborate ritual or interruption of my business but a simple blessing will not offend me, especially as your colors mark you as a servant of Qon, the Cohort of Belkhanu. Although I seek the Long Cool Darkness of the Tomb and no shining Isle, all of the gods have power. You may give your blessing." ************************************************************* MI"KIMU AND BALESHWisely, you do not intervene or even draw attention to yourself as Drish vents upon Fi'ru most unjustly, since you can plainly see the youth has been working hard. After a few moments of this scolding, the H'melu keeper lumbers away leaving his wistful pen-cleaner to continue. After Drish disappears into the longhouse, Fi'ru rests upon his shovel a moment, wiping sweat from his brow and casts his gaze to the street. He sees Mi'kimu and Balesh and looks startled. Looking about to see is Drish is watching and seeing the window empty, he slowly walks to the fence, timid and shrunken as a mouse when it is backed into a corner by a cat. FI'RU: "Masters, why are you come? You have changed your mind and wish to expose me as a thief to Drish and take me to the City Watch, do you not? I beg of you, do not! I have seven copper coins laid by and some strips of salted H'melu, I will give them to you if you leave me in peace..." ******************************************* GM Note: Upon resolving these two scenes with roleplaying, at the Sword of Vri and the H'Melu pens, your return to the Restful Traveler can be otherwise be assumed as well as any other errands you wish, such as the warriors buying armor and weapons or any other tasks, it will not be necessary to elaborate.
I am limited to posting for now on a very old laptop and have been unable as yet to post anymore pictures.

I realize not everyone has access to the list of arms and armor or other equipment.
Just tell me what sort of equipment or other items you wish to buy. There are many market stalls in the streets that you can also find herbs, wine, odd items.

"Fi'ru, we may have a prospect for a wharf-rat such as yourself — one livelier than cleaning pens, and maybe even less dangerous than trying to steal from foreigners! What will it take to pry you away from your current labors? If you are interested, I will return soon for you. You will become my charge and obey my word — and get your knife back!"

Fi'ru looks at Mi'kimu and reads the sincerity in his eyes. He looks back at the long house and reeking animal pens, then again at the two warriors from across the seas. FI'RU: "I am not worthy, but I will strive to become so. I would not so much as look back at this hovel. There is nothing for me here. I pledge my service." He bows his head. At that moment Drish yells and giving the two warriors one last glance, he hurries away.

Do not forget that Be'van the Shaman holds gems and coin on behalf of your people, a goodly sum considering your position as refugees. It is a surety that should you find good prospects for employment he and your people would aid you in minor matters like proper clothes.

N'Rasa will say to Master Vri, "A thousand pardons if I presume too much, but surely that blessing from my companion is worth something to you in return? Perhaps a half-off discount on this suit of leather armor I am trying on?"
((If that fails))
"In that case, can I put a deposit on this suit to hold it for me until I have enough, good master?"

She can afford the suit but if she would like to bargain with Vri I will roll on the reaction table to see if Mohammad's blessing does indeed gain the favor of Qon. If you want me to use the reaction table, like this post to signal that!

Mahammad does a blessing that is not offensive and wishes for more business, satisfied customers and more profit. MOHAMMAD: Invoking the blessing of Qon upon Vri, you feel some confluence of spiritual energies, like the meeting of two contrary winds that swirl together with an initial conflict that is soon subsumed into a dance of powers, some within you, some without. It seems to resolve in harmony. Some of the power you feel tension with comes from the shrine in Vri's shop, if your feelings serve you well. You sense great darkness emanating from the small idol, yet some Yin/Yang effect seems also at work, and your blessing is released. GM Note: Dtspurrier- in looking at the character roster I see I did not update your professional skills. My bad--did I give you a roll and choice of skills? If not we need to do that--there are skills which might come into play here.

OOC: yes will need those skill options. Mahammad keeps in mind the idol and will buy the items GM Note: Dtspurrier1: I rolled on the Professional Skills table for Mohammad and got a 72- thus you may choose 4 Skills from among the first 5 on the Priestly skill list. The 5 skills are:
Knows 2 Modern Languages
Knows 2 Ancient Languages
Produce Light
Cure Light Wounds
Detect good/evil
Choose 4 and as to languages, I had been assuming you had Knows 2 Modern Languages, probably was thinking of Charbok, our other priest. You don't have to choose that but a command of Tsolyani would be most useful to you in the game. There is a thread in our game forum covering languages. Again, sorry for my oversight. The total of Mohammad's purchase would be 49 Kaitars- he has only 37 K. at hand. He can afford the mace and armor but the shield is 11 K. He can approach Be'van the Shaman back at the inn about some help from the communal fund and come back for it on the morrow, try to bargain Vri down now, or forego the shield.

Mi'Kimu now has some classier duds and the sling and a Chlen hide battle axe run him a mere 15 additional Kaitars, totalling 30 and leaving him 69. He can afford armor as well, mind you. Chainmail is 41 K., leather is 31, shields are 11, and plate Chlen is 51.

Excellent. Mi'kimu will refrain from additional expenditures until a solid prospect for work is identified and agreed upon. Speaking of which, he presents to the village folk his plan to speak with Karunaz the following day — work which may require the assistance of several other members, in somewhat more menial tasks (apparently). He endeavors to convince any elders of the virtue of pursuing this adventure, should any balk at the cost in treasure or able-bodied clansmen. Ideally, we get their concession, we speak with Karunaz the following day, and our now respectably-clad party meets our patron in the late afternoon to discuss the details of this venture!

The dark night of Tekumel descends, lit only by the light of the two moons, and you are all back at the Restful Traveler.
The Nuroabites are impressed to see you all once more armed and armored as you stride into your chambers.
When Be'van hears all, he is pleased. He and some of the older ones, particularly one Ja'lula, a Tribe mother of honor and distinction, praise you all.
The extra coin is gladly given for those in need, and upon hearing of the word of Karunaz, they secure garments from the innkeeper for those who did not buy clothes.
BE'VAN:
"Good work indeed, sons and daughters. Only a day has passed and a promising start is already yours.
So this Vrishmetu is a son of the Dark Flame clan? I have heard of that clan-- it is a High Clan.
Dark Flame is devoted to a dark Mitlan the Tsolyani call Hu'ru. He is called the Opponent of Good and the Dispenser of Calamities. And that alone tells me you should be wary of this man- however, our feeling is that you should go and hear him and if the work he offers does not offend our gods or your conscience then it might be wise. You can be choosier later on.
And we have some strong and brave enough folk who, while untrained in magic or war, would be excellent porters.
Eat now and take your rest."
And the Shaman pronounces a blessing upon you all to protect from you from any evil influence.
MI'KIMU AND BALESH: One notable thing happened when you visited the Sword of Vri-- as you were leaving a foul smelling, filthy furry giant stump of a creature with eight limbs and three faces, offered his services as a warrior if you have the money. His name was Spatta the Ahoggya. He can usually be found at the Sword.
MOHOMMAD: That night as you sleep you have a strange dream, or rather a nightmare. You see Dakota dancing a dance in concert with other maidens and hear a woman's evil laughter as the figures move fluidly in a dark place. The dream changes and you see another woman, weeping at a fountain in the midst of some sort of joyous festival. She wears green and purple. She turns and looks at you and with an expression of despair casts a dagger at your feet. At that instant the dream world is split with a shriek neither human nor any beast you know
(I will write up the meeting with Karunaz and his master tomorrow. Have a good night all.)
