Getting too excited, I see... I presume the thread title is supposed to be "now", not "not"?

Great. Now they should put the 3.0 and 3.5 into CC, since that is the one most of us reference.

I'm curious though ... if they want me to copy-paste those rules and use them in a product I make, why did they release it as a PDF? I can copy-paste from their PDF but it totally kills any layout and formatting. Why not release the rules as a Word doc or something easier to work with?

Only have PDF reader? If you upgrade you can turn a pdf into almost anything you want.

I already made a document version of it if you want a copy let me know, as it easy to convert to a word document.

I’m not inclined anyhow to reproduce text, but for a frame of reference to which I can point people — who may well be adapting stuff to another rules set they prefer — I favor either BFRPG or (if Advanced material is relevant enough) OSRIC.
I don’t know about OSRIC, but I gather that work is underway to detach BFRPG from the OGL. As I noted in the “edition wars” thread, it’s available in .odt format for editing and also at low cost in POD from Lulu.
It remains to be seen how much legal protection we have without a license from WotC, but my guess is that the OSR is now basically a genie that can’t be put back in the bottle. We’re meeting a demand that Hasbro has no evident intent of meeting, and whatever use the firm’s customers find for our works is likely to be a network externality that helps sales of the official D&D line.

For an editable format, I think RTF is fine for most purposes and the easiest (after UTF-8) to handle on mobile platforms. I personally don’t like being stuck with a file in a Microsoft format.
