So, I have been patiently waiting for the 5e game I’ve been playing in to wind down, but the most recent session demonstrated that my daydream of getting a turn at DMing and doing an OD&D game is not going to happen. Basically, mapping and exploring is exactly what that group does NOT want to do, so it won’t be a good fit.
Therefore, I have concluded that the only way I’m going to get an OD&D game going is to run it live on Discord chat; I’ll focus a camera on a battle mat as needed, but otherwise we don’t have to have cameras on. . I have started trying to play PBP before and it doesn’t work for me.
My proposal is to try using just the 3LBB rules; we’ll add house rules (from elsewhere) by consensus as needed. Setting will be my original D&D campaign:

The expectation will be the default, that adventurers have come to the Stoneharrow region to seek their fortune in the Great Dungeon (as many have before them) and someday build their castles, hold land, and retire. Honestly, I don’t expect that we’ll get to castle building, but I would like to play as if… We’ll lean heavily into the usual D&D tropes, since we’re exploring the roots of the game.
Times are negotiable; I’d expect that 3 hours is about the maximum that I can stand to be on another “conference call”. I haven’t retired yet, so that’s my normal Monday to Friday life. I am a morning person, and I am in the US Eastern time zone (GMT -5). Saturday or Sunday morning would be ideal. I need to keep Saturday nights open, but most Sunday times are negotiable. My wife is busy on Monday night with a choir and it’s a work at home day, so there’s a window from 1700 on. My work schedule gives me a day off on alternate Fridays, so most of the day is negotiable. Weekly would be the goal…
Any interest?
