This is a great look at my Dad at the very beginning of D&Ds rise. Rob Kuntz remarked to me in 2014 or so that he thinks the creation of modules forced a standardization of rules and gameplay which he though was counter to the spirit of D&D as originally conceived. And that it was driven by the monetary advantages of selling accessories to lots of players. So Rob os firmly in the make your own world and make it unique camp. But of course that means your sell rules, dice, character sheets and a few other general items but no source books or settings. Would D&D be here today with that philosophy? Anyways very fun to see that. Thank you for sharing it Jolly.

We need to remember to celebrate both Gary the Gamer and Gary the Businessman.

Without Gary the Gamer (and Dave the Gamer), D&D would never have existed.

Without Gary the Businessman, AD&D would never have existed, and in all likelihood, as Luke implies, D&D would have died out long ago or at best remained a small, half forgotten hobby.

As a Gamer, I'm not always on the same page as Gary the Businessman, but as a Business Professional I absolutely understand why he did what he did and said the things he said (which I've made clear here on numerous occasions)

I'm a fanboy, even when I don't agree with him.
